Guess what?! I managed to catch my bus this morning! You want the even better news?! I got bloody Kane again as a driver. He has now started to play te damn good morning song twice of people don't shout good morning back to him loud enough. Why havnt I killed him yet??
We arrived in kakoura (very possibly spelt wrong!) early afternoon, the new bus load of people seem nice enough but I know for a fact they are all stopping off on the way back up the north island so I won't be with them long. Still, there were a couple of nice girls, one of whom, yes I forget her name (she wasn't THAT nice :p), went whale watching with me that afternoon. The original plan was to go dolphin swimming one day then whale watching the next, but due to certain circumstances in christchurch (ie me missing my bus) I could only afford one day here. And since it's pretty bloody cold, I opted for whale watching - on a boat instead of in the freezing cold water. Good plan stan! Is what you should all be saying right now! Anyway I can swim with dolphins in the bay of islands :)
So as I was saying, me and emily (oh her name was emily! Emily!) turned up and lucky us kane had decided to do it too! So we all went out on the boat and as per usual I immediatly started feeling sick! But on the plus side so did emily :p apparently all my months of travelling have done wonders on all kinds of travel sickness except boats! Brilliant. We were out on the water for about 3 hours I think, continously chasing sonar signals and sightings from the crew until we would find a whale and watch it as it prepared to dive and swung it's massive tale up into the air - it was brilliant! Got some great pictures! Usually on these trips they see one or two whales at the most but this time we saw five! And two of them were up at the same time next to each other which apparently is rather rare! All for my benefit I'm sure - I'm a pretty big deal in the whale world don't you know :p
The rest of the evening was pretty quiet, there was a pub quiz down the road but the girls who went came back almost straight away saying they felt slightly violated by the locals so I definitly made the right choice opting for a 'sod all' evening!
Final thoughts on kakoura? It's beautiful. And sunny too which really makes a difference, buts it's tres cold and all a bit 'hick town' for my liking. I might go back, but only to piss about with some dolphins in the summer :p
