Vale, Puedo escribir ahora! I hope you´re ready for a looong blog entry! This past weekend I experienced one of the greatest adventures of my life. I was completely imersed in the spanish culture for the entire weekend! Our group, ISA did a quick trip to Cordoba and Granada. Perla and I decided to stay in Granada for the rest of the weekend with our spanish friends that live there. We met these guys in Sevilla during a futbol game, and they have been very good friends ever since. We usually talk via internet but we have also met up with them in Cadiz as well. So they were more then happy to have us stay with them and show us around Granada! We were a little skeptical first but everything turned out to be amazing! After touring the Alhambra with ISA, Enrique picked us up and took us to the spanish wal-mart (Alcampo) this was so exciting for us because we had no idea spain had a wal mart type place, we thought the only thing that exsisted similar to it was el corte ingles which is ..defintly not anything like wal mart. At alcampo we bought stuff to make fajitas oh and perla bought a pair of running shows for 7 euro. Major wal mart status. We made delicious fajitas for enrique at his house, and then took a little ciesta. Later, we headed over to Antonios house, and him and enrique showed us around granada. Granada is the last city in spain to be inhabited by muslims, so there is a huge muslim and morrocan influence there. They showed us tiny streets that are replicas of those in Morocco. There were huka bars at every street corner so we hung out and did huka in one for a while. (o by the way this whole experience is in Spanish. The boys spoke barley any english, they knew some so they were able to help us out but for the most part, we all spoke in Spanish. I learned so much!) That night we experienced our very first REAL botellon. A botellon is just when a group of people drink in the streets before going out to a discoteca or something. We have "botelloned" in sevill..but nothing like this. This whole park was filled with young spanish people, conversing and drinking rum and fanta out plastic cups with ice. My favorite par twas the the bathrooms made especially for botellons. They were stalls, without toilets, just a hole that you pee into. So basically it was like popping a squat on the street, but you were in the privacy of your very own stale. ...lol. Anyways after that we did the typical spanish discoteca hopping, got late night kababs and stayed out until 7 a.m. The next morning..or i mean later that day when we woke up we decided to take a drive to the Sierras. (The mountains in Granada) It was a quick 30 min drive, we listened to a good amount of spanish music which im obsessed with. enrique made me a CD with a hundred songs on it, so i cant wait to get them onto my Ipod! The Sierras were gorgous, we ate lunch at a restaurant at the ski resort and just sat out in the sun, trying to tan for hours. Apparently this is what most people do on Sundays in Granada. Here is were we got convinced to not go back to Sevilla that day, skip school on Monday and go Skiing in the Sierras instead! I weighted out the pros in cons several times and 36 euros for a lift ticket, 12 euros to rent a board and boots, and an entire day in the mountains with our chicos guapos de espanol (hot spanish boys) seemed pretty priceless to me! It was by far the best decision of my life. but before we get to Monday our Sunday isn´t finished. After the Sierras we drove back, played some guitar hero and then headed over to their friend carmens house for drinks and desert. And it was literally just that. A very small gathering of spanish friends, conversating over a drink and some pastries that the girls had made. Their friends were so nice, we loved Carmen, and she invited us back to stay with her anytime! Talk about a real spanish kickback. So Monday was by far the best day of my life! We hit the slopes around 10 a.m. and didnt get off them until 5:30 p.m. Perla, Antionio, and Javi skiied, while I was one of the few snowboarders on the mountain. They knew the moutain like the back of their hand, so they took us on everyside, on the most amazing runs i´ve ever been on, and to the most amazing views i have ever seen. At one point we were in the middle of the mountain, surrounded by mountain peaks all around us. Hard to explain but ill get some pics up here soon enough. The weather was perfect so we only needed sweatshirts. but you know, with sun comes tan lines, so i have a horrible goggle tan around my face right now, and it is beat red..not cute. I became pro at snowboarding, I love it now and still can´t wait to get my own board this summer! I wished more then anything that Jeff and my friends were there to see me,..i really used to suck, i was doing jumps and everything yesterday! No fear either, we all wiped out a million times..i definitly had my share of face plants, the worst fall was when I ran into a pole that was holding up the sign "despacio" (slow down) I hit the pole, caught some air and landed on my back! lol it was hilarious, and painful..and today i have a huge bruise across one of my arms to show for it :-). While I was up on the mountain it was the first time I really felt like I was experiencing something really amazing, it was like a once in a life time experience. Not to mention, we have become so close with our spanish boys, I know that they will be lifelong friends. They loved us!..they have girlsfriends, but they said that we were the nicest, prettiest, americans they had ever met and that they were in love with us! They are too cute, and I cant wait for you all to see the pictures and videos we have! I´ve realized that site seeing has nothing on our experiences here in Europe, the true memories are going to come from the adventures that happen randomly, and imerse us in the culture.
Hopefully the adventures keep coming, Ill keep you all posted. Miss you all!
