On our late arrival to Cairns grrrr we figured our way through the town to Global Central hostel where we stayed our 2 nights in Cairns. Checking in took a long time also as there was a few people in front complaining and then they didn't have our booking right. It was only for one night and then he said there was no room for our second night, even though it was all booked in advance and we had the details. The manager came in and figured it out, there was a mix up with the dates on the system so all was good as planned, plus she upgraded us to a double room how nice was that!!! So we went up to our room, and there was a bag in there, with a towel and a few things on the bed. So Gary went back down to see if someone else was in the room, but girl came up took away the stuff and said the cleaners must have missed it hmmm, not sure how but anyway. We headed out into the town to Macca's for food as we were starving and not ate since our breakie then we hit the sack. Got organised for our diving day tomorrow first as it was an early start. We were drifted off, thenwe were waken up by a guy coming into our room..... he had a key, a friend and so clearly he was in the room before us. We were so lucky because he could have caused a scene and complications but he was so apologetic and embarrassed. Not sure what he did though cos reception was now closed and they had his stuff and he didn't have a room now! Very strange.
6.30am up, dressed and walked down to the Marlin Marina ready for our day diving the Great Barrier Reef eeekkk. The boat was called Reefkist and the company was the Cairns Dive Centre. We departed around 7am from the marina and boated out onto the reef a good few hours, we enjoyed tea and biscuits, filled in some forms, given briefs about snorkelling and diving and around 10am we had our first dive. I went with the certified divers only 3 of us all young girls, was really good dive, a bit uncomfortable with my cold but still enjoyed it even with my nerves at first. The dive was about 45 minutes which was cool we didn't see much but the coral itself was so beautiful, so colourful and calm, just gorgeous. Gary also dived as an intro and he really enjoyed his experience, we fitted in a quick snorkel together to before we had to get back on the boat for dinner at 12pm. We had pasta, soup, bread rolls and meat and continued to the next dive spot. Both sites where within the Moore Reef, the first site is named Coral Gardens, the second dive was a new site for the company but was a nursery for all small fish so we saw so many varieties of small fish it was amazing, and again we were down for 45 minutes so really good. Gary dove second time also was very cheap my second dive cost $22 and Gary's $30. We really really loved it didn't want to leave. We arrived back in Cairns around 5.30pm enjoying some fruit and cake as we travelled back, was an awesome day trip so want to do it all again tomorrow, haha.
We ended back to our room to get showers and changed for the night, had a walk around Cairns, a really cool place, much bigger than I thought, a proper town like Sunderland. Lovely big lagoon pool, live bands playing, lots of eating places and bars. We met Matt from our Fraser Island trip had our teas at Gilligans, a hostel, really cheap free meal voucher when you buy a drink and at the time we went it was buy one drink get another free so the guys had 2 pints and chilli con carne meal for $13 :) Happy times. From there we went to Woolshed, Matt had been before and said it was really good place and we also had our afterparty from our trip today and we hit perfect timing as handed free beer and slices of pizza :) We enjoyed few shots and many a drink there and even a little pool and boogieing. We headed back to Gilligans but we had to pay $15 to get in so we didn't bother, said our goodbyes to Matt and we headed to bed.
We had a bit of a lay in the next morning as our airport shuttle bus was not until 9.30am. We got up dressed and checked out and were on our way to the airport. It would have been very nice to have more time in Cairns we really liked it and there is so much to do and see but we had a blast!
