Our flight from Cairns was at 11.25am, we checked in nice and easy had a look around the shops got some snacks to munch on the plane. It was only a 2 hour 15 minutes flight to Darwin there was some awesome bird's eye views from the plane over reefs, island's and gorgeous beaches. We got through customs quickly, grabbed our bags and seated onto the airport shuttle from the airport to Darwin which was already booked and paid for and within 15 mins we were checking into our YHA room. Only a very small YHA, not the best but has air con in our 6 share en-suite, a kitchen, bar and pool area so all we need and it is situated on a good street, Mitchell Street. We had a nap in our room but pretty tired from our busy month or so and recovering from our colds. 6pm both starving we went on the search for food, along Mitchell Street there are many restaurant, bars with live music, shopping centre with a Coles really nice atmosphere actually, we opted for a take-away type place and then popped into Coles for a mini food shop for our teas and breakie while in Darwin. Had an early night in the room tonight, few jobs online, sorting photos and blogs then crashed.
We had 3 nights in Darwin so was very nice to have some chill time and be grounded somewhere longer than 2 nights. We definitely made the most of it today, the Monday as we stayed in the room pretty much all day other than going to the kitchen for breakie and tea. I napped most the afternoon just so tired and little bit poorly but was also quite productive as we did jobs online while we could as we leave Australia very soon!!!! Talked to home that night too which was really nice, then we had a late night walk to Macca's for an ice cream :)
Tuesday 26th Feb was our last full day in Australia!!! Today was decided to be productive outside our room. We still enjoyed a chill morning in, had breakie then headed out midday to Target. The new camera we bought in Noosa that broke on us during our Whitsundays trip was from Target so we went to take it back and get our money. However, the Target we googled for here was actually an outlet which of course couldn't help us out, but luckily there was another store only 20-30 mins away on bus. So off on bus to Palmerston we headed only $6 roundtrip so wasnt too bad but we still had hassle, they weren't happy we didnt still have the box and the instruction book, then we spoke to a manager who sent us away telling us they cant refund us only send it away to be repaired which obviously is no good for us as we leave the country tomorrow. Gary went off and called Fuji and that resulted in a very interesting turn of events, a faulty product purchased within 30 days can always be refunded so back to Target we went and sure enough we got the refund!!! So very annoying and frustrating but thanks to Gary we got there in the end woop woop. Bonus, there was a Hungry Jacks there to so we enjoyed our last BBQ Rodeo mini burgers in Australia as there isn't one in Darwin city so it was all meant to be. Got the bus back and headed straight to the YHA pool for a nice refreshing dip before our tea.
We had Gary's homemade burgers for tea and then we headed out to the cinema nearby to watch Silver Linings Playbook. Was a really good movie and we had the biggest frozen slushie ever! Had a good time then we headed out to a bar up the street, Monsoons, for our last drinkies in Aus. Got a bucket of Coronas for $20, happy days :) After that we had a nice leisurely stroll back to the YHA and got ready for leaving tomorrow. So sad that our year is nearly up but happy as we have Bali woop woop!
Our last day we packed up our bags and left them in the YHA storage room and checked out our room by 10am. Headed down to Darwin's Waterfront, a 15-20 minutes walk from the YHA through the city. Here there were two pools, one a section of the sea netted for swimming with a man-made beach and the other a wave pool with loungers and kids area. The sea pool was free so we headed in there first, such hot sticky weather its not very nice to walk around so we were quick to jump into water, it was really nice, then we chilled in the shade before going for little walk around few shops in the area. We still had 3-4 hours left in Darwin before out airport bus for our flight so we decided to pay the $5 to go into the wave pool area and I am so pleased we did it was so much fun. Really big waves there were body boards and rings to use and sun loungers to chill on, it was cool but unfortunately we had to leave at 2pm as our session time was up. We walked through the main street in Darwin for shops having a look around before heading to Domino's for our lunch/tea, Gary wanted his last Oz domino's so that fitted in well. We still had an hour or so left by the time we had fuelled up so we went for dip in the YHA pool before our bus to airport at 4.30pm. We got checked in nice and earlier and chilled in airport for couple of hours before our flight to Bali at 7.40pm. Both so excited for Bali, a nice relaxing pool holiday :)
