With living in Sydney for 3 weeks and trying hard to save our money and work hard on job hunting we decided to start exploring to bought a week travel pass for bus, train, tram and ferry anywhere in Sydney, its only $43. So each day for a week we would spend the mornings job hunting and applying and the afternoons exploring Sydney and visiting all the places we were keen to see. Starting off on Sunday we got bus to Circular Quay and had a lovely walk along the wharfs and right up to the Sydney Opera House, I cant get enough of that view. Along the quay is some great restaurants and bars great atmosphere with great views on the opera house and the Sydney bridge. We continued to walk back towards the wharfs to The Rocks. The Rocks is a quirky part of the quay, reminds me more of home with the cobbly pavement and little bars and cafés, and of course the famous Rocks market :) There is around 30 market stalls with some lovely and funky things, there was one stall with paintings that Gary and me fell in love with and said we will definitely be going back to buy before we leave, such colourful aboriginal styled paintings of animals and Sydney's views. We enjoyed the Rocks but it wasn't as big and wonderful as we expected so hoping that because its now autumn here there isn't as many stalls. Also on this weekend was a fashion event which took up a lot of attention. We went for a drink and snack at a bar called the Cruise Bar, was really nice we sat outside looking onto the Opera House.
On Monday Gary had an interview early morning so our travel passes came in handy as we travelled to a place called Pagewood. Was a really good find as there was a big shopping mall with all the major stores likes Coles and Woolworths food stores, Kart, Woolworths and Big W. We had good look around before getting bus home. Gary's interview went good and he would find out later in the week.
Next trip was to Watsons Bay only 10-15 minutes on bus from our flat, its passed North Bondi and wow what a place. In that area was also the Gap which had a short walk with some incredible views out into the ocean and also behind was the view of Watsons Bay Harbour and city skyscrapers and bridge. Down at Watsons Bay its really cute, only a small beach either side of the pier were ferries coming in and out, and also a seafood restaurant called Doyle's. We sat on the wall of the beach I had ice cream (gorgeous) and Gary ate chips with about 40 seagulls watching our every mouthful!! A ferry had come into the bay so we thought we would catch it to another bay called Rose Bay, another little bay, a sailing bay, was lovely scenic place but a bit of a ghost town no one around and nothing really much to see. We did pick up leaflets for sailing or canoe hiring and also sea planes trips :) We got ferry back to Watsons Bay and then bus back home. Beautiful afternoon out some great photos although the photos don't show the actual beauty in real. On our way home I got a phone call a interview set for Thursday with a temp agency yyyyaaayyyy!!
Next day, the morning was spent in Target interview clothing not the most exciting but got all I needed, cost quite a lot but as Gary said it's an investment for all interviews and potential jobs. That afternoon we headed on train and then on the tram to Darling Harbour, oooh my favourite place other than Bondi so far. First thing we came across was Hard Rock Cafe ;) brand new only few weeks old as the older restaurant had recently burned down. Darling Harbour much like Circular Quay is full of restaurants and bars, great atmosphere, there is a massive IMAX cinema, a lovely kids playground, cool army submarine and ship, Sydney's aquarium, Maadam Tussauds (also new) and wildlife centre. Darling Harbour is also the docking of all the cool ships, like Sydney's show boat, posh party boats and cruise boats. There is a big shopping centre called Harbourside with more restaurants, shops, bowling alley and bars along the outside, inside here is the Hard Rock Cafe, is very different a more modern, posher type Hard Rock but still has its great memorial inside of the greatest in music.
On Thursday I had my interview with EMPLOY agency it was at 3pm so didn't do much beforehand, had morning in, the interview was 2 hours pretty different as had to do 3 tests on typing accuracy and speed, data entry and also knowledge on excel was pretty tough actually but I passed phew!! After the interview met up with Gary and we went for food in the city. Gary found out he didn't get the job from Monday's interview :(
Friday was Manly day we didn't leave until pretty late as Gary had a phone interview for another job good stuff. We got bus to circular quay and then ferry to Manly, was a half hour journey again there was amazing views on the ferry ride. Manly is great, I love it perfect place for surf shopping all the big surf names have their own shops and they are nice big ones too, great street of shops. The beach itself was big, a lot bigger than I expected, lovely beach and water was so clear, we dipped our feet as we walked along, Gary played in the rocks looking for crabs and anything he could while I chilled in the water. Along the beach is cafes and more shops, really really great place.
Saturday is Gary and mines beach day, we tend to spend our last few Saturdays body boarding at Bondi, however, we weren't too sure as the weather looked grim so we just headed out for a walk Along our road to the beach there was a lot of people having garage sales and on our walk to the beach we ended up buying a dress, scarf and a surfboard all for less than $60!! We didn't have the cash for the board which was $50 its a bit tatty but perfect size for us, we headed down to the beach to get cash out at our bank, looking at the other garage sales on the way. I headed back to flat to grab our swim stuff as Gary went to buy the surfboard and we headed to Bondi Beach to surf. The weather as mentioned was not great, very windy and so the waves were all over the place and the current was stronger then ever, but we had good fun. So excited we bought a surfboard!!!!! That evening Gary, me and Alicia and Mark got bus into city and enjoyed the fireworks at Darling Harbour, every Saturday night they do a firework display and it was really good and completely free, we thoroughly enjoyed the show. Darling Harbour at night is electric, all the restaurants and bars were filled with people and loads of people had showed up for the fireworks we had an awesome night. We went for drinks and food at bar called Watershed sat outside along the harbour, then we headed to Star city casino were the guys enjoyed playing roulette and blackjack, both came out with more then they went in with so all good. The casino called The Star is huge, like the size of a shopping mall and it was really nice, I felt like I was in a scene from Oceans Eleven. We sat and watched one guy bet $300 on roulette on each of his goes, and one time he won like $3,500. Men were just throwing hundreds of dollars on the tables my heart was in my mouth most of the night, but was really good experience and none of the guys spent much money at all.
We've had a great week exploring more of Sydney, so weird going to all these amazing places, all the places you normally just read about its crazy. We both love Sydney the more we see the better its becomes, so much to do and see and experience.
