Stop 4 - Washington DC
I arrived in Washington on a Sunny Monday afternoon, after a 4.5hr flight from LA (where by the way I sampled my first USA pancakes at LAX) and wow it was warm...but I loved it, as I got taken by shuttle bus to my hostel and we approached DC...OMG I was in love already, the place looked amazing, all the buildings I couldnt wait for the next day to start and to explore......I arrived at hostel and went off to do the big food shop for the week (how very grown up of me)
So the first day arrived and I got up at 645am to go for a run!!! YES a bloody run....but I will soon realise later today that this may not of been 1 of my bestest ideas!! Brekkie scoffed and packed-lunch done ready off out I went ( a little dull today but soooo warm ) Map in hand, backpack on and camera ready......
WOW really is the only way to explain this city!! the Buildings, Monuments, Memorials and Museums are just out of this world!!! I did The Smithsonian Museums and my fav by far today was the Air and Space museum.....I love anything to do with space so I was in my element running around seeing all the space shuttles and reading all about planets.......just pass me an astronaut suit now and jet me off on apollo 26 ;-)
The security in this city (obviously like) is major...every museum you go into....you get your bag searched and scanned like in the airport and have to go through the scanner machine.....no "BEEEP' for me....plus I was sitting on the steps waiting for my tour and a policeman told me that I couldnt sit there...OMG I was so scared haha!! Imagine someone lashing me off the steps to St George Hall back home......
Off I go to "The White House"....."knock knock" oh ay Obama wasnt even in!!! Fuming, I wanted a cuppa and a chat....how very rude, seens I had made the effort to pop by, oh well...I sat outside and ate my packed lunch (ok I know how weird that must sound I didnt literally get over the fence and hitch up on the lawn.....I meant near by ha)....I though Michelle would of at least made some cake!!!
2nd day I went on a tour...OMG you wanna see the car I went in (check out the pics) was like something out of a cartoon haha, actually reminded me of the Flinstones...but obviously not made of stone) I went to all the Memorials today......and Iiked Martin Luther King already (by the way I will refer to him as MLK for the rest of the blog......so make sure u remember), but after seeing his monument and all his quotes...I like him even more, so was made up when a found an exhibition to him at the American Portrait Gallery!! Love everything he stands for and he was so ahead of his time!
BURPEES have been accomplished in front of The White House, oh yes...Obama this ones for you my friend!!! I looked like a complete nutter but I dont care, it was so much fun!!! Fulfilled a goal and I will sleep tonight (which by the way can I just say I never...bloody noisy room mates lol!!!)
I am releasing my Inner Geek here in Washington DC......there is soo much to see and do here...Im like a kid in a Candy Store running around and trying to fit everything in!!! Speaking of "Candy" I found a shop with some yummy jellies in...my first in USA, I caved and Ive had some and I dont regret it so NERRRR!!! This was all after seeing "The White House" at night and all lit up.....Id say a pretty sucessful evening ;-)
My final day was spent visiting "Ford Theatre" and the "Peterson House".....now for those of you who dont know what this is all about......listen up (I think I boss here).....It was all to do with Lincoln....where he was assasinated and where he died...chilling it was but very very good...gotta love Lincoln!!! Imagine being around then...obv we all werent, I mean it was 1865.....I doubt anyone reading this is that old??
This hostel is sooooo good! They have so much info at hand and so much going on, plus is really close to everything! loving it! BUT OMG I have some noisy people around me, the beds are so squeezy and so noisy that I have hardly slept on my trip here! Stupid french students (you know me and kids) making noise and running around....I gave them the "death look".....you dont want to experience that, let me tell you know...the Death look accompanied with half an eye mask, ear plugs and usa jarmies.....yes it was deffo a sight for sore eyes!
Washington...you have blown my mind!! Allowed my Inner Geek to come out and I thank you...Obama you are let down, I wanted a cuppa
