Arrived in the afternoon and had a few hours to relax (which was like christmas come early, as most of this tour Ive been meeting myself coming back) so I had a bath, face mask and starbucks…thinking Im the Queen of Sheba lying there - soz aba me!
Then it was time for the Dinner Jazz Cruise on the Natchez Steam Boat - we boarded and ate our food (which wasn't much - BUT obv I went up for ends of dessert…standard! Then the Natchez started and off we went on a river cruise…words cannot explain how amazing this was, it was a warm evening and as we sailed down the Mississippi River..as we sailed the sun was setting and it was just magical - I mean Ive sailed down the Mississippi River at sunset - I have to pinch myself because seriously it was one of the best things Ive ever done!!! Jazz Band playing, sun setting and sailing down the river - WOW!!!!!
So the next day I had a free day in New Orleans - and we have not had many of these so I was super excited to get out and explore - obv I went the gym first thing….like a little routine of mine. I then headed out and OMG about 930am it was like 28 degrees and so humid….I started in Bourbon Street and as much as it is the main street here - it wasn't all its name lived up to - it was so smelly and dirty (vom) and some proper freaks walking round and it wasn't even the evening time, anyways I went on my adventure and off on my mission to find my Christmas Deccie and I ended up getting a few other bargains too! I then headed to Jackson Sq, French Market - stopped by Cafe Du Monde (as ya do) and then they had a Tomato Festival on - I kid you not an actual festival about Creole Tomatoes - how hilarious and there was loads of stalls selling like bloody marys using their tomatoes and like prawn stuffed tomatoes - kinda surreal but nice as well…..into the french market and lots of fabulous stalls and eateries - I mean it craps all over Greaty Market in Liverpool hahah……I was thrilled to find someone selling all natural lolly ices - I had a lavender, blueberry and coconut one - it was delicious and much appreciated in the humidity - although it was raining…good old weather hey! I then found somewhere to have GF Food - omg amazing!!!
I treated myself to a beer in BB Kings Blues Club and I cant believe what happened - I walked in and sat down and got my beer and as soon as I sat down they started played "What a Wonderful World" - talk about meant to be - this ones for you Grandad!!! i know you were with me that day…as you always are
I popped by Jackson Sq, St Louis Cathedral, French Quarter, Joan of Arc Statue (Joany on a Pony) - New Orleans is a weird and wonderful place - and trust me it got lot weirder in the evening….went back to Bourbon Street with the group (and thank god I didn't go on my own) - its like a mix between Amsterdam and Magaluf strip…I was shocked it was vile - drinking on the streets is allowed and it just makes people act like fools and pour onto the street and there was like half naked girls just standing round (I mean have a bit of respect for yourself seriously) - I was like just OMG what is this…lots of tacky seedy bars and I just couldn't believe it - we quickly exited the street and went to the French Quarter - much more civilised
Anyways it was an experience and I really enjoyed my time in new Orleans…..so thank you and also for the views from my room on the 29th floor…eeeekkk (see pics)
NOLA - you've been amazing and thanks for the memories
Onto Pensacola now….and time for the beach!!!
