Stop 5: Chicago
So I arrived…after a long(ish) plane and train journey to Chicago….aka the Windy City - well I tell ya what I was hoping it wouldn't be windy, because as much as I love Mary Poppins….I did NOT wanna be flying up in the air singing "lets go fly a kite" - not really what I pictured!
Anyways….I did the usual…arrived an got food and literally needed sleep….travelling doesn't half take it out of ya, and at the grand old age of 30 I am feeling it!!!
So my first day…I was hoping for some nice sun and I wasn't let down…..I went to see Buckingham Fountain….and then walked down the waterfront….omg and I am glad it wasn't windy…because I would of ended up doing front crawl to the side, made my way to Millennium Park and on the way stopped to say HIYA to our Abe (Thats Abraham Lincoln to those who don't know that we are mates) …sorry aba me! In Millennium Park, I seen something called Cloud Gate…..this looks like a giant peanut/bean….chose your own words, but anyways its amazing, well technically its a big metal thing u can see ya self in, like a weird shaped mirror…OMG just look at my pics cos I am making no sense haha! That evening I went for tea and beers with my new Chicagoen (yeh its a word…..Im ringing scrabble) friend Sarika…whom I met in San Diego and it was lovely to see her and like we'd known each other forever.
Today was Boat trip day….I felt like wendy on captain hooks boat….ok thats a lie, it wasn't like that I didn't need to walk the plank! It was a architectural (get me……growing up) tour and went along Lake Michigan seeing all the amazing buildings and it really put Chicago into perspective….and I loved it. I also paid a short visit to Navy Pier…..its like New Brighton, but good!!! Then I trotted off to Theatre District "RAZZLE DAZZLE" (come on I know you've been waiting for that and "ALL THAT JAZZ") seeing all the different Theatres they have and it was great….its all bright lights and big billboards
So today I continued with my mission….For those who don't know about this, every place I visit I have a mission to get a Christmas Tree Dec and a small (obv) scale model of that place..so I was off 007 style with my weapon being my rucksack…well..!! I succeeded and then went off and done a bit of shopping for gifts for people, let me tell ya I need to treat myself! I Bought OLAF!!! If you have seen Frozen.. I do not need to explain WHY this has made the blog and for those of you who don't understand SHAME on you hah!
Remember Home Alone 2 Lost in New York? Remember Duncans Toy Chest….well Ladies, Gents, Pets (whom ever else is reading this blog) its actually in Chicago…oh yes and I went to see it and I ermmm stood outside took a pic and left haha, its actually a place called "The Rookery" and was closed to public, I wanted 2 turtle doves like but what can ya do! Ive seen it and Im happy…..doesnt take much
Hostel has been nice, its massive but room is nice….shame some of the roommates Ive had cant be as nice and considerate as me!!! FUME (imagine my face) that some whoppers come in late and turn the lights on and start dismantling their cases…or the bulb who's alarm went off at 6am one morning, but did it actually wake them NOOOOOOOO!!!! Sorry aba me, but I like my sleep and don't take kindly to inconsiderate buffs disturbing me
So to end my time in Chicago and my time in USA…..I just spent the last day wandering, seeing sights, soaking it all in and helping USA celebrate Memorial Day here…..I just walked carefree through Chicago and the parks (kinda of like Sound of Music….oh) had a beer in the sun and just "be"
Chicago you have Dazzled me and all that jazz (get it? haha) and thats for not being your windy self.
Thanks for the memories, the gorgeous weather and for just being you..
What a way to end my trip
