Sen Monorom
We arrived in Sen Monorom with sore bottoms. Got dropped off outside a hotel so had a look as it was the one Andy from Balcony said was OK. We decided to stay, as did Laura and Andy who had the room next door. We had showers then wandered around the small town. There are loads of dogs here and they scare me. We walked to Bananas because in the LP is said you can get cottage pie, and you could. The Dutch owner Tanya was lovely and an amazing cook. The cottage pie was great and had cheese melted on top!
The next day we started the morning lazy with Gareth watching baseball and me writing the diary, again. We then booked our elephant trek for tomorrow and went the Khmer Restaurant for breakfast/lunch. In the afternoon we can't remember what we did but we went back to the Khmer restaurant for dinner and had Guinness steak pie!
Today was a really fun day. We got picked up by motorbike and headed for a Punong village where we would meet our elephant! She was amazing, had a complete mind of her own which we liked because it meant she couldn't be bossed about too much. We climbed aboard and of we went towards the jungle. Every three metres our elephant decided it was time to eat, so we had to stop. It is amazing how strong elephants are! We arrived at the river and sat down for lunch. Our elephant was allowed to wander around the jungle on her own. This was great for her but tiring for us when we had to go and look for her after we had eaten! She had crossed a stream so we had to cross the stream. We then discovered she had crossed back over so we had to find a fallen log! We eventually found her munching away at banana leaves. We climbed aboard and made our way back to the village, making a detour to a mango tree to 'stampy' could knock it over!
On our final day in Sen Monorom we hired a motorbike and set off to the ocean of trees look out, which was overgrown. We then went to find some waterfalls. We only found one!! All day we drove around with our rubbish map and following signs but we still only found one and the water was flowing too quickly to swim. Even though we only found one waterfall it was still a great way to view the beautiful surroundings of the area.
The following day were picked up mini van which was not a squash and not too hot but it broke down and we had to be towed for a while. We then changed vehicle and eventually arrived in Phnom Penh. We stayed in Indocine again and got a flight following day to Vientiane which is the capital of Laos.
