Today is our last full day in Cairns before heading off down the coast again to experience ventures anew.
We decided to make the most of the good weather yesterday with a trip to one of the Northern beaches with Lynsey and an absurdly large picnic. After picking her up from her hostel we headed on up to Trinity beach, as despite spending a few days there with Lynn and Leslie all those months ago, we never actually made it down onto the sand!
The morning sun was much appreciated by all concerned and we even managed to justify dipping into the cold waters of the sea, but as soon as we had polished off the last of our food, a huge grey cloud descended upon us completely blocking out the sun. The breeze that had been so welcomed in the morning soon became the bane of our existence and Lynsey even resorted to wrapping herself up in her towel to try to remain warm.
It soon became clear that the only thing keeping us there was our stubborn refusal to believe that we could ever be cold in North Queensland, and once we come to this realisation we headed back into town to try to escape the clouds. As soon as we got back into Cairns centre had caught up with the sun again and we were back to our sweltering best!
Yesterday evening we met up with Julie and her friends that she was travelling with for dinner and a few drinks in the mighty Woolshed, where we were witness to the usual high brow entertainment that was so often on offer when drunken backpackers came into contact with the phrase "party games"! (To be honest, it was actually really funny watching people making complete fools of themselves!)
The highlight of this morning was experiencing possibly the coldest swimming pool in the Southern hemisphere at our campsite and it doesn't get much more exciting as we have an action packed afternoon of organising all our stuff ready to be packed away, before heading into town tomorrow morning to meet Lynsey and Marcus for breakfast before setting sail once more and heading down to some of the National Parks along the coast.
