We left Nananu-i-ra at 7:15am on the boat that does the school run to the mainland and then caught a taxi all the way back to Nadi and could immediately feel the difference in the temperature, just as we had hoped. After the short boat ride out to Mana we arrived just after lunch - much to the surprise of the staff we had left just a couple of days previous.
We got to the reception and once again Mark had sorted us out with a great little room to ourselves even though the hostel was pretty much fully book and at mates' rates how could we complain! We said our hellos and after getting ourselves settled in the room, the chef cooked us up a lovely lunch before we resumed position on Dream beach to roast for a few hours!
After our cooking session on the beach, normality was fully resumed with us attending the dancing and fire dancing show. We have now seen it quite a few times, but the novelty still hadn't worn off and we were soon up there with everyone else taking part in the Bula dance, which none of us can get out of our heads as we've done it so many times now! Then it was time for Carol's birthday surprise as she was dragged into the middle of the floor while everyone in the hostel sang happy birthday to her, before another night of Tacki with the staff.
Yesterday morning we all made it for breakfast for only the second time and Alanna and Jen decided to go on a snorkelling expedition after catching a few rays before lunch, while the rest of us splashed around in the waves. There were lots of amazing fish and a sea cucumber which was strangely black. We later found out that it was because it was in defence mode so it obviously took a disliking to us! After splashing around a bit more it was time to struggle out of the water before heading back for a little nap on the beach!
Last night was the crab race again and for the third week in a row we ended up winning a prize - this time it was Carol who came in first and won a sarong and scuba dive, which Alanna snatched up as Carol isn't a big fan! As it was our last night (take 3 - our definitive last night this time!) Jerry informed us it was time for more Tacki and much of the night is a blur.
This morning Alanna went off for her dive taking Christine with her while the rest of us baked on the beach and the bar deck. As our boat wasn't until 4.30pm we relaxed in the sun with the people we had got to know so well and Patrick even got a lovely head massage from Jen, which being a masseuse I'm sure he appreciated it like it was done by a professional!!
When it was time to leave the staff sung us the traditional Fijian goodbye song and a song about missing us all before walking us to the pier. We spent so long saying goodbye and getting photographs of us all that the boat almost left without us and Carol had to run to stop them pulling the walk way in!
After the boat ride back to the mainland we had one more night of fire dancing at the same place that we had witnessed our first performance, before our last day in Fiji came to an end and we headed for some much needed rest.
Tomorrow morning we are heading to Auckland to begin our two month stint in New Zealand and although we have made some great friends in Fiji, we are really looking forward to the next chapter in our travels.
