Jen and Becky's Summer in Spain
HOLA AMIGOS!
Due to extremely limited internet time we have decided to write a massive note to update all of you on our travels so far... don´t worry the travelblog website will be up and running with videos shortly!
So we arrived safely in Valencia after 3 long ass days of travelling. The most notable event of our travels being running into Carly Fitzpatrick on her way to Greece and spending our entire layover in Heathrow with her. We played Snakes and Ladders in a pub, slept, ate... it was fabulous.
When we arrived in Madrid a girl that plays on a different team in the Spanish League picked us up and we spent the night at her house (a whole 4 hours). She tried to convince us not to get on the bus to Valencia and to just stay and play for her team. Instead we left with an email and promise to come visit and allow her to let us stay at her place for free, feed us, and show us the best time ever in Madrid. Not a bad trade. She also lied to us about her age.... a trend we would see in the future.... but.. mostly from boys.... hmmmm... interesting.
We arrived in Valencia yesturday and realized we hadn´t slept more than 8 hours since friday. Despite this we managed to have an awesome day!
Our new loves-to-speak-english friend Noelia picked us up from the bus station and took us grocery shopping (paid for everything) and to our new field (grass infield and super sketchy) and to meet our non-english speaking coaches Paqui and Beto. Then we headed out to our new home which is about 20 minutes outside the city. It is the SFU of Valencia. It´s on a hill and all made of cement. AWESOME. It is called Cheste Escuela de Deportiva which from this time forward will now be referred to as the Big C.
So we got to the Big C around 3 and immediately went for lunch... cause that´s when they eat lunch. Our first meal was Paella! It was so delicioussssssss. However... this meal was served to us in a cafeteria FILLED WITH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. This is where we will eat all of our meals for free. The food is aweseom! We were stared at by almost everyone in the whole place throughout our entire plate of Paella. Or else hopping up from our seat to double cheek-kiss all the people that wanted to meet us. So cute. All these kids board at the school and train in their sport and take random classes such as plant taking care of, autobody, and handball. haha.
We have had 3 meals there so far and i´m pretty sure we are the talk of the school. Last night we were flip flops to dinner and all i could hear around us was people pointing out our sandals and the word sandalias flying through the caf. They think we are crazy. They are all dressed for winter in Manitoba and here we are in shorts, tank tops and flip flops b-c it is already hotter than it gets in Vancouver all summer.
Our house is pretty sweet. We are living in the houses that the teachers live in. It´s kind of like townhouses at SFU but bigger. 9 beds and 4 bathrooms. We pimped out our rooms pretty good. Pushed a few beds together and unpacked all our clothes. We only had one major incident in which I almost died... trying to plug in our ipod stereo with a plug converter but luckily i let go intime because it sparked and started smoking out of control. That was interesting.
We made our first friends at dinner which was awesome. They are a bunch of CA´s for the residences. The guys immediately tried to date us and the girls want to party it up with us and show us around town. But they´re super awesome and helped us with our plug problem at our place and showed us where we can sit b-c apparently we are just sitting at peoples tables and causing more stares at dinner then necessary. So now we eat with them and they´re taking us out clubbing on thursday!
Today we got picked up and taken to our new car! Becky immediately had to drive and it was insanity. These people have no rhyme or reason to their driving. It is absolute madness. There are these huge round abouts and at any given time there can be anywhere from 3 lanes of cars to 7 and no reasoning for who goes in front of lane switches or anything. But Becky did amazing and i´m sure she will get used to the madness soon. It was actually quite funny. Pumped to learn the city and start cruising around. Plus they give us gas money. Man i Love Spain!
We went to the beach and passed out for our first ever afternoon Siesta! It was awesome. we burnt. we´re going to be black!
Anyways internet is limited and we´re off to our first practice now and to meet the rest of the team!
Miss you all!
let us know what´s going on"!
xoxo
