Atfer Adelaide came our huge couple days of driving. Our first night we stayed in Port Augusta, pretty average town so we were glad to leave early the next day. Drove 5 hours to Ceduna which is the start of the Nullaboor, a nicer town with a really nice jetty and new waterfront pub so we hung out there for the arvo and cooked dinner in our unit.
We decided to leave at sunrise for a 767km drive, slept in a little but still managed to get on the road at a decent time. It was really hot today, 36 degrees in the shade and Lukes driving arm got quite a lot of sun! Not a lot to see at all on these couple of days, so we just tried to drive for as long as we can. Stayed the night in a roadhouse at Cocklebiddy, everything was so expensive! We thought going over the Nullaboor we would save a bit of cash but petrol was 70c dearer a litre, and the most expensive nights accomodation of the whole trip we had here. It was well worth it though with the temperature pushing 50 degrees in the sun where we were supposed to be camping, plus soooooo many flies, our room had air con which stayed on all night so at least we were comfortable.
We were looking forward to going back to civilization, although the Nullarboor was a lot better to travel than we thought. Lots of beautiful outback scenery and spectacular coastline with the greenest water we have ever seen. Unfortunately didnt see much wildlife at all except for a few snakes, we were hoping to see some wild camels but we didnt even see any kangaroos, with the exception of a couple of dead ones :(
The road trains are really scary to pass even if they are on the other side of the road, they can have up to 4 trailers and in the wind they swing all over the road. We saw some absolutely huge ones parked up at our roadhouse.
On the thursday 21st we pushed on through to Esperance, a welcome place to stop after some big days driving. Gorgeous beaches although not swimming weather which was so dissapointing! The day before we arrived it was 37 degrees there and the day we arrived only 17! Crazy! We had a lovely time looking around the town, had a drink at the local and chilled out at the hostel.
