A BIT OF A BEACH THEN RUNNING BACK TO THE HILLS
Just a quickie to bring this baby up to date. The day after the retreat I decided that my next stop would be Sanur which was described in Lonely Planet (which is usually helpful but the Bali edition seems to be horribly wrong a lot of the time - I'm thinking of ditching the damn thing) as a simple, quiet haven with a white sand beach. (By the way the picture I've attached to this entry is a library shot it's not Sanur!!!)
After buying a ticket for the next morning - during the course of the day my throat got sore and by the evening I was feverish, delirious and unable to swallow. The beach seemed as good a place as any to recover so after a sleepless night I decided to make an early morning dash to the doctor then catch the bus. The doctor diagnosed acute tonsilitis and packed me off with anti everythings.
Now I don't know if it was because I was sick and cranky but I really didn't like Sanur at all. It felt really resorty with concrete hotels, stalls packed with tacky T-shirts and beach bars offering Pina Coladas. And you couldn't walk more than a couple of steps without someone trying to get you to go into a shop, see their hotel or give you transport and they seemed a lot more pushy than in Ubud. The beach was OK but filled with tables from hotels and bars and a lot of fat pink people with too many tattoos...
Anyway I stayed 2 days most of which I spent sleeping off the lurgy then got the next bus back to Ubud. I've decided to base myself here to explore the rest of Bali, do a cooking course, get some more beauty treatments, visit museums and galleries, do some more yoga and pass the time in the nice hippified vibe.
