En Route To Tokyo, Ontario
Fortunately, our flights today have been smooth sailing. The remnants of Hurricane Patricia mixed with an Alberta Clipper resulted in a forecast for a lot of rain and wind in Toronto starting last night. Fortunately, the bulk of the rain was supposed to hit after we flew out at 8:40 this morning and we experienced no delay. Everything was fine in Boston since they weren't affected by the storm when we were there.
This is my first experience on Japan Airlines and so far, it's been great. I immediately noticed that the flight attendants were well dressed and all had make-up applied in the same way (pink blush, pink lipstick). They are always happy and smiling. We were initially impressed by the entertainment system but then when Neil tried to play Streetfighter 2 and I tried to play Sudoko, the controller wasn't working properly and we couldn't continue to play.
Soon after take off we were offered a drink and rice crackers. I had a kiwi juice and both that and the rice crackers were good. Shortly after that, they offered us a meal which came with water but they offered us another drink and miso soup at the same time. They then came by shortly after that to offer everyone green tea, then Ben & Jerry's ice cream, then coffee, then another tea!
I had the pork neck and it was okay. It was fatty and I'm not a fan of pork to begin with. The veggies were good. They had 3 side dishes: tuna and smoked salmon (smoked salmon was really good), seaweed and noodle (seaweed good), and a cold fried chicken in a sauce (not a fan of it being cold), plus fruit salad. Overall the meal was okay but I couldn't believe how many things they kept offering us! And the ice cream was really good!
They've completely turned down the lights now so I'm going to try to get some sleep. It's 6:17am in Tokyo (5:20pm EST) and I want to get on Japan time as quickly as possible.
