Around the World Forever
Cuzco stands at the head of the Sacred Valley of the Incas and is the starting point for those making the 4 day trek on the Inca trail to Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas.
For Tim and I, we'll be getting there the lazy way... by train. But first, the city should be explored and we need to ring in New Year 2006. The hostel we stayed in was Cuzco's newest hotspot for backpackers and they threw a great party. For midnight, we all headed down to the Plaza de Armas or central park where people were running laps around the square and lighting off fireworks. This had to be the least safe new years I've ever witnessed as crowd safety was a minimum priority with thousands of particpants and basically everyone and anyone able to purchase fireworks in the street and just start lighting them off anywhere. The atmosphere was crazy, fun, and energized and I have to say I've never seen anything like it. When things died down we ducked into one of the bars on the square ... The next I knew, it was 7:30 in the morning and I found Tim back in the hostel where we just hung out for a while recapping the crazy evening. Happy New Year!
