So it might've sounded as if we didn't like Vegas, if you read our previous blog. Admittedly, some parts of the 'Vegas Experience' just aren't really for us; we're not big drinkers, we're not gamblers, we're not really into 'shows' or 'adult entertainment', and some of the other punters here are as rough as baggies fans!
But we've kept ourselves busy! Our 'hummer' trip into Death Valley was great, Sal really enjoyed the 'old-style' Vegas show we saw (surprisingly, I didn't!), we attended a cool 'pool-party' at our hotel, I visited the 'Atomic Testing Museum' (don't judge me!), we watched the musical fountains at the Bellagio (only about six times!), we viewed 'the strip' at night from the double-decker tourist bus, and the top of the 'snide' Eiffel Tower, and we lost a dollar on the slots in the Casino!
We also kind of enjoyed wandering around the hotels and casinos just looking at the bizarre things happening. In 'The Venetian' they have tried to recreate Venice, complete with a canal and gondolas. You can actually have a gondola trip. People actually pay cash to sit in a gondola, and travel up and down a canal (or glorified swimming pool) inside a shopping centre. It's easy to laugh at the ridiculousness of it, and we did, a lot! But also, we kind of understood that the 'themed' hotels and casinos are aimed at Americans, the vast majority of those that come to Vegas will never get the chance to visit Venice, Rome, Paris, Egypt, or even New York. They'll probably only ever see those places recreated in Vegas!
Really, Vegas was not aimed at us, but we still enjoyed our visit! Sadly, that's it for the States (although we return to LA for our connection to Argentina), we've driven 2322 miles in our hire car, and we've loved it! But it's best to leave while some of our clothes still fit!
Coming next; Mexico!
