Well, our time in SE Asia is over, and we've had a great time. We're now in HK, and we've decided to come home early and give Japan a miss, due to the Earthquake/tsunami/nuclear meltdown situation, we're such lightweights! The receptionist here almost got a smack, as when Sal told her we should have been flying to Osaka, she sneered 'well Osaka is quite safe actually'! She's obviously a stranger to the maxim 'the customer is always right', snooty cow!
This hotel is one of those flash places that thinks it's better than it actually is! Huge swarovski crystal chandeliers in the massive, whitewashed lobby, but no chairs or sofas, it's like being in the arctic! No free internet, but if you join the 'executive club', you get access to the 'club lounge', where they serve a special breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening cocktails, with free WiFi access ( the lounge, not the cocktails!). We paid up to join 'the club', as we needed access to e-mail in order to try and reschedule our flights, which we knew was going to be difficult, partially due to the UK/Asia time difference. We've been making damn sure we get our money's worth, too! 'Complementary shoeshine, sir?' Yup! 'Selection of nibbles with afternoon tea, madam?' Yes, pile them up there! 'Cocktail, sir?' It would be rude not to, a lesson learned from our great friend Denise Kelly! 'Swim in the pool, madam?', do we get complementary fluffy towels? Yes! Oh, go on then! Sal reckoned I'd gone too far when I rang down to reception to ask what the temperature was outside! Hey, I wanted to know! I'm considering putting my flip-flops in for the shoeshine service, too!
We're having a good time in Hong Kong, despite being slightly stressed about the booking for the flight home! We've done the open-top bus tour of the city, took advantage of the good weather yesterday by taking the tram to The Peak, and enjoying the fantastic views. Today we went on the bus again, to Stanley Market, and finished the gift shopping, I'm sure everyone will be delighted with their gifts : /
