Heyaaaaaaaa!!!!! :P
I would apologise for not blogging sooner but I then thought, 'Why? I'm having a blast!'. Plus, I'm still filling you in...just at my own pace ;)
I'm currently in Changi airport in Singapore (the picture is of Japan, but this site has no Singapore pictures). No, I didn't splash out on a laptop. The airport provides free Internet access in intervals of 15 minutes I.E. they log you out after 15 minutes of use. You can just log back in though, so - wooo!! Only problem is, I have to write and save this blog in bits, due to the intervals. So, don't be surprised if this blog is extraordinarily short, as I'm on my last 15 minutes before I board a flight to Indonesia. I'm just gonna run through the past few days to let you know what I've been up to and that I'm still alive and well.
Since the Cameron Highlands, I went to the great city of Kuala Lumpur. It took about 2 hours and we were only to stay there for two nights. We arrived in the afternoon and the atmosphere where we were staying (China Town) was amazing. The Petaling market is one everyone should experience. It's so much fun, so vibrant and the things you can buy are crazy (mostly imitation stuff). Rob, Paul and I simply walked through the market as a few tourists (of which there were many) and the Malaysians at the stalls were doing the best to grab our attention. One guy even tried selling us a pair of cuff links for 45 Ringgit (6 or 7 quid). As we turned our backs and walked away, he screamed, '10 RINGGIT!!!'. We turned around in disbelief not at the price, but at the man's eagerness to sell. At first we laughed, but then it hit home about the lives of some of these people.
After a bit of shopping that night, I spent the next day trying to sort out my electronic devices which haven't been working since falling in the river in Khao Sok. Yes, my mp3 player doesn't switch on - so no music, arghhh!!! - and my camera plays about a bit. On the bright side, my watch is working.
I managed to sort out neither my mp3 player or camera, but did send one kilo of tea leaves home. I bought them at Cameron Highlands (where this tea is made) as it is extraordinarily good tea known as, 'Tea Tarik'. I beg now that my parents don't open it to try and make tea, as it is made a special way that I will reveal when I return. So, just leave it in my room please!
So, apart from the mailing of tea, it was a pretty unfulfilling morning. I hadn't seen the city and hadn't achieved my aim of sorting out my electronic goods by visiting the manufacturers' shops (mp3 player one was closed, camera one was out of town). I did, however, have a great afternoon with a friend of a friend I met. I managed to taste some of the local food, see some sights, and even indulged in a special shirt handmade in a particular Malaysian style known as, 'Batik'. It looks stunning, plus I got a tie to go with it! Then we toured the city looking for a crazy hat so that I could get free drinks from my group. My tour leader called it, 'silly hat day'. I ended up getting a hat/fan and it was good. In fact, I won and last night got treated to drinks by my group. Got a little tipsy!
Anyway, after a great day in KL courtesy of my friend's friend, I re-joined my tour group and had dinner in a huge shopping centre with a theme park in it!
The next day and we were off to Melaka - an old trading port with an illustrious history of Dutch, Portuguese and British settlers. We went to a maritime museum and also did a bit of a walk. I would have preferred another day in KL instead, but it was cool. We stayed in this really awesome guesthouse that had a great story behind it. For example, it was made very long and the middle of the house doesn't have a roof, as there was a tax on glass at the time.
The group had a good time in Melaka and spent the night playing Uno together as well as with another resident of the guesthouse. Lots of fun to be had. The next day and we were off to Singapore...
Gotta go, boarding plane, time running out!
Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
