We arrived at the Powdermills Bunkhouse around 9pm at at the start of the Shipston U14 rugby tour. Tomorrow the boys will partake of "A Day on The Rocks" with the instructors of Spirit of Adventure. On Sunday we'll return home via Chard Rugby Club where they'll hopefully enjoy a great game of rugby.
So After lunch I decided to climb up to the castle which dominated the city from the heights. It was a long climb up with various points of interest along the way (see photos). The views from the top were absolutely stunning; I don't think I have ever been to any castle with such an incredibly strategic position over its surroundings. The sense of history that you get from this castle and the city itself is inspiring.
I decided to go for some lunch before tackling the long climb up to the castle, so I stopped at the Casa Floro in the shadow of the cathedral. Had a great meal; two generous courses, wine and coffee for just €10.50 - bargain!! Now I need to climb that hill to work it all off!!
I drove from Alicante to Valencia over the hills rather than take the coast road. I have stopped for an overnight stay just over half way at Xativa. I chose Xativa because there was a reasonably priced and highly recommended B&B called Casa Aldomar as well as the fact that it was described as an old medieval town.
