So much has happened since my last entry from Venice. We haven't had internet so I haven't been able to write entry's - hence being a little behind. Since Venice we have covered Milan, Barcelona, Pamplona and now San Sebastian. Right now, we are very tired as two of the boys in our room snore like freight trains so I will just cover Milan - will fill you in on Running of the Bulls in the days to come - now that was an adventure!
Our first impression of Milan was pretty s***! We got off the train dripping with sweat but decided we had to get out and experience the city before making final judgement. So after dropping our bags at our, average hotel (2 different trains to the city-but with air con!), we headed out into the hot as hell conditions!
First stop was Milan's landmark, Duomo. With a capacity of 14,000, it is the worlds largest Gothic Cathedral. It is massive! And so amazing! Building began in 1386 and finished nearly 600 years later! We climbed up to the roof in the sweltering heat - and after walking up over 1,000 steps, we could finally enjoy the view! The detail on the whole building is just remarkable. Unfortunately the photos we took don't do it justice, it's just so impressively HUGE!
We had our first disaster day of the trip in Milan. Everyone warned us of the days where nothing would go our way and we certainly experienced this last week! First of all, we missed our train-that pissed us off like A LOT! To realise after waiting in the stinking heat for half an hour, its been for nothing! And what is the go with people and BO in Europe? Is there a deodorant manufacturing crisis or something?? So basically we had wasted 10 euro and for us broke backpackers that's a lot out of the daily budget! So off we trot to the ticket refund centre, only to find out there were about 200 other people that had missed that train as well!! We wait in the painfully long line for about 15 minutes before deciding, f#&! It, lets just go buy another ticket! So we go to re-purchase a ticket and find that there are no second class tickets left, only first class! Usually I would be stoked with this but when you're poorer than your boyfriend and travelling the world, not so much fun!!! So we pay the additional 13 euro and wait another hour for the next train - this bloody Lake Como, had better be worth it!
Bit sleepy (even though we have only just woken up) so that's all there is today, will fill you in on the next entry about what we have covered since Milan.
Tonight is the World Cup final - Spain is playing and we are right here, ready for action! Here's hoping they win or tomorrow could be a very dull day in San Sebastian. Now have to get some sleep in before the game!
