In the middle of the night, a wicked storm struck Dubrovnik and was blasting doors open in the hostel. My couch was on the top story next to a balcony that was open, so I listened to the roar of the wind and rain until I eventually drifted off again. When I awoke, the storm had luckily subsided and the sky was a clear blue. I walked out into the city and to a place called 'the Hole in the Wall', which is literally that, a small doorway in the city wall. It leads out onto the other side of the wall into an area of rocks with a bar right on the edge of the water. I was relaxing and was enjoying the view when I met an English guy named Dave and two of his co-workers, who all work on a cruise ship that was stopped in Dubrovnik for the day. We talked for awhile and then we all went to grab some lunch at a pizzeria. They told me all about life on a cruise ship and the places they've visited and now I'm definitely considering working on one to travel the world. We returned to the 'Hole in the Wall' where I met more of his co-workers who were all really awesome. I didn't have my swimsuit so I just stripped to my boxers and jumped in with them. Eventually they all had to return to work so I said goodbye and then relaxed in the sun for awhile. Further down the wall there were cliffs that people were jumping off so I swam over with an Aussie I met. We clambered along the rocks to the first spot that was about 20 feet high. We jumped with no hesitation and decided to try the second spot, a meer 40 foot drop. The ascent required us to scale some extremely sketchy spots and shimmy up between two rock walls. Without hesitating my Aussie friend jumped and I was right behind him. A full 3 seconds of freefall later and I splashed back into the Adriatic. Stepping off of that cliff was one of the most terrifying experiences of my life! We swam back and met 4 more Aussies (Chris, James, Nash and Napper) who we spent the next hour or so jumping off of the rocks with. It was Napper's birthday so they invited me to come party with them later tonight. We grabbed some bottles and then I returned to my hostel. I uploaded some pictures and had finished half my bottle before I headed over to their apartment. Their room overlooked one of the main squares and I could hear they were already partying it up so I threw my lighter through the window to get their attention and they ran down and let me in. They had a big pot filled with a concoction of beverages and we drank ladels of it as we played a game called Pyramid. Then me and three of the Aussies moved on to the Sky Bar (one couldn't make it out of the house) and drank and danced until the early hours of the morning. It was a crazy, fun time and on the way back we had to boost Chris up to the window since we didn't have the key. I passed out on their couch, too tired to make it back to my hostel. Aussies sure know how to party!
