For our final day in NYC we wanted to do the bits that we had missed and as we had a time slot to see the 9/11 memorial at 1030 we set off early to see it. I had seen pictures if it and so wasn't really that interested, but to be honest when we eventually got in there passed the tons of security it WAS quite good, the memorial part of it was touching and it must be very supportive to the families of those who were lost. After this we left there and went to SoHo to watch the England game, a pub called 'The Red Lion' was found and lo and behold inside were many an England fan, aaah a home from home for 90mins; after the game we went for something to eat and then we t to Grand Central Station, which is a magnificent building in its own right, once again Jen was all, "ooh it's just like in the films". While it was obvious she was having a good time we decided to go shopping on 5th Av so she could spend her birthday money, 2hrs later we left the shop and as time was getting on we made our way out to Brooklyn again to get a shot of the Brooklyn Bridge with the Manhattan skyline behind it, Jen wasn't too interested to start as it was quite a trek across town and quite far from the nearest subway station, I was hoping it was as good as I thought it was, we wandered down a little street and then in front of us was the majestic sight of us being beneath a lit bridge with the sparkling skyline behind us, we were both amazed by it and as it wasnt easy to get to, wasn't packed with tourist so still had quite a feeling to it. We think we may have spent too much time here as before we knew it we realised that if we wanted to get to the empire state building for the last elevator at 0115 then we needed to pretty much hurry along, we ran back to the subway and got on a rain that was going much slower than normal apparently due to signal failure, then had to wait at a station for 5 mins for a connection, we got out at 42nd St and looked around for a large lit building, which in NYC you may think is easy, but we couldn't see it, I asked a fell selling hot dogs as thought he would defo know but no, he didn't speak English!!!? Eventually some bloke pointed us in the right direction and we ran on, finally seeing the building then getting through the doors at 0110, with no one else in the queue we went straight through and up..... and up.......and up to the 86th floor. The views at night were fantastical and photos a plenty were taken, it also was bloody freezing up there so as soon as we had photo'd all sides we made our way back down. We stood outside for a sec and a new white limo pulled up outside where we were, Jen joked "oh great you've brought the car", no more had she finished her sentence than did the driver get out and offer us a ride, we laughed saying that we couldn't afford it, he said he only wanted the fuel cost, again we laughed Sauk f we couldn't even afford it to the nearest lights, fe asked us where we were staying and we said "Harlem", he said he lived there and if we wanted he would drive us up there. I looked at Jen, hen looked at me and the driver then said "$20", we said ok and got in.....how totally awesome it was driving through the streets, through times square up 8th Av up to Harlem in a flash limo with tunes blaring out, couldn't have planned it better if I had of tried. Truly epic end to a truly great time in NYC and fantastic start to our epic adventures.
