Hello again...well we headed to the Perhentians for a couple of days and ending up staying for 2 weeks. We have now (very reluctantly) left and are now stuck in Khota Bahru. Stuck because Hari Ria is on Friday (the end of Ramadan) and the whole of Muslim Malaysia is on holiday (for about a month) and as a result there are no spaces on any busses for at least 2 weeks! We had planned to go to Penang the island that the East India dock co. (big up to the East London Massive!) first began Asian distribution. There is a bus tonight but our passports are currently with the Thai consulate for visa application and we dont get them back until tomorrow. So the plan has changed and we are heading to Thailand early. Anyway the Perhentians, what did we do? We stayed in a beach hut for 2 weeks, got involved in another environment dive programme (only do it for the free t-shirts really!), lazed on the beach (a lot!), went to beach parties, has giant lizards as room mates, watched fireworks and thunderstorms from the beach and dived as often as possible. The diving was great, we saw 2.5 meter marble rays, black tip reef sharks, loads of turtles, SEA HORSES (FANTASTIC!!!) and loads of other usual suspect fishes. We are becoming obsessed with diving and heading straight out to the Thai islands on the west coast to get in the water again. We met some great people on the island, everyone in Malaysia is so friendly and helpful (genuine) I hope this is the same for Thailand but have a feeling the tourist money trap is a bit more evident! In Khota Bahru where we are at the moment, it is unusual to see westerners and we are a bit of a novelty, it's kinda strange with everyone looking at us and funny when the kids stop in their tracks to stare (it's a bit like being famous I guess and am sooo glad I brought a pair of bling (very fake) RayBans in KL (cost $1)) Other than that we are of course still having a fantastic time, cant wait to get off and explore a new country and will as ever keep you updated. x x x x x x x x
