8th January we decided to fly to Singapore – didn’t fancy a 24 hour bus ride! Flight went smooth connecting to the city by MRT was no problem. However, the search for a hotel was a mare! It took us all day, and even then we weren’t entirely satisfied but felt we needed to take it before we killed each other!!!! Arriving in a city after being on islands in Thailand where everything was dirt cheap took some adjusting to, especially the cost. Basically the kind of hotels we had become accustomed to would have cost us about 70 pound a night, so this is why it took so long to find somewhere, we wouldn’t accept that we had to take a lower standard hotel.Singapore is a typical metropolitan city. Skyscrapers, excellent transportations links, shopping malls on every street corner, food outlets on every street corner and 7 elevens. All pavements are marble and very slippy, well to us they are. It’s a very clean, well groomed city, however, it has rained pretty much constantly whilst we have been here, so most of our time has been indoors. Two visits to the cinema – saw Blood Diamond and Stranger than Fiction. Blood Diamond has us both blubbering – an excellent film. We visited Sentosa Island via a cable car ride, and did some luging – which was great – cross between a toboggan and a cart, start at the top of a hill and bomb down to the end – a rush! We also sat in a magical laser and water show, sounds pants, however it was amazing and it was free which was even better. It had 3d animation projected onto water and culminated in a spectacular water, fire, laser and music finale. Well worth it.We fly to Perth tomorrow, another early start, 5.30am wake up to get on the underground to the airport. This is the end of our South East Asia travels, 3 months of so much fun and so many experiences. Its been great. Thanks again for your mails and messages and hope you all follow us around Australia, where we are sure we will have just as much fun (to try and alleviate the stress factor of accommodation hunting we have booked a self serviced apartment for our first week – until we decide on our plan)
