It's been at least 2 weeks since I last updated my blog and since then we have been cycling through Portugal. Our first goal was to reach Lisbon, which we did within 3 days of crossing the border. The closer we got to Lisbon, the more hilly and windy it became. And temperatures here have been a little bit cooler then in central Spain.
In Lisbon we spent a day looking around the city going to the palace and watching the change of guards. Then we took tram number 28, which is a very old tram route that does a loop around the city winding through narrow streets and climbing its way to the top of the city.
From there on we have followed the coast up towards Porto, discovering that Portugal is quite a challenge to cycle through as the landscape is very hilly and the unsheltered coastline of the Atlantic Ocean makes for some tyiring winds.
We have stayed in lots of nice little coastal villages along the way and we have been eating in local restaurants trying out the different specialities. Most of them were brilliant, though one did contain a pigs snout.
We are now staying in Porto in a little cabin at the camping ground. As it is the end of the camping season here, it's just as cheap as setting up our tent and with much more comfort.
Last night we went into the city itself and got to go on a tour in one of the port wine cellars. There the explained how the port wine is made and we got to taste lots of different kinds of port wine for free. Then we found out we could repeat the same process at the other port wine cellars, skipping the tours and going straight for the free tastings.
Tomorrow we leave Porto heading northwards to the Spanish border. We think we'll be back in Spain in a couple of days.
