DAY 1
Got up early to get the bus to Bura, we were ready for our bus at 9, it left at 11! It took 4 hours and we finally pulled up at a nice looking prison! We were greeted by a strange lady whos english literally streched as far as 'hello welcome!' she then tried to introduce us to sister Marianna who was lovely besides trying to force us to eat when we told her we we werent hungry over 500 times she believed us and we were shown our rooms :) We had separeate rooms and they were nice, clean and spacious so that was good! We were than taken on a ten minute walk down to the orphanage, and we were greeted by over 25 snotty, wingy, filthy children but that was completley forgotten when they grabbed our hands, cuddled us and hugged us, we were remembed why they were there and why we were there! It was really sad. We saw 2 babies - one was 5 months old and one was 1 month old (Honeslty mum if you were with me you would of brougt them both home!) the children then shwoed us their farms were there lived pigs, chicken, sheep goats etc, it was cool but smelt! We met a lady called Anita, she was odd, she told us they had 5 dogs, we could see one and Ellie asked where the others where and she just said 'Dead' and we were like oh.. okay! We then went back to the convent and chilled in our room a bit tired and unsure of what we felt. At 7 we were called for dinner, our moods did not brighten as what was infront of us did not look like it went in your mouth, more came out of your stomach! We then went back to my room and sat on my bed talking, very fed up, upset and decided we wanted to leave tommorow.. Ellie then went to bed and after about 5 minutes I rang her, we both decided we were petriefied and I took my pillow and my toothbrush and ran to her room! We didnt sleep much that night at all but felt much safer! It was a really eerie place.
DAY 2.
Woke up wanting to go home. Went to breakfast and EVERYTHING changed! Everyone was so much more welcoming, the food was better and we were no longer feeling worried about ourselves but excited to go see the kids! By 9am on Saturday morning we were at the orphanage playing with the kids. it was amazing ,they were SO entertained by us and ballons for hours! It was a bit strange as we were then left on our own with all the kids! After about 3 hours One of them went over to a corner and sat on the floor in the corner and wet/pooed himself.. it was horrible... we told one of the mams who didnt seem bothered at all, ten minutes later she came back to clean it up by which time another boiy had slipped over inm it so she made him clean it up! We decided at this point to go back up to the convent, have a rest and get some lunch! Its really tiring trying to get them all under control and watch them all at the same time! We had lunch, again it tasted okay and we chatted to the sisters. Sister Mariaanna then came into our room and chatted to us, it was so interesting. She told us all about her sisterhood, why she did it etc. I accidently asked her if her mum was a sister until Ellie kindly reminded me that nuns dont have sex therefore cant have kids. Just one of my blonde moments that day! She laughed (thankfully!) and then invited us to go and pray with her.. we kindly declinded feeling like it might be a bit awkward with 2 mzungos and 16 nuns so chilled before dinner. Dinner was great we chatted with the nuns, got a bit of banter going, everyone here is SO interested in England! It was nice and we went back to bedroom where I had blonde moment 2 and asked Ellie whether you could put a nuns eggs in a mans body to mix it with the sperm so he could have a baby.... she then kindly reminded me men cant have babies! We then had a hot shower which I didnt think exsisted in Kenya.. we were excited then discouvered the shower was actually scolding and as soon as Ellie had her 2 minute shower the water was then cold. Hot showers still dont exsist! Sad to be having our last night!
DAY 3
woke up at 5am to get the bus back to Mikindani. Sister Stella and Marianne were both up (absoloute favourites!) and they gave us brekky and we hugged them bye which was very sad! We want to go back one day!
We are so proud of ourselves for doing it, it was a tough weekend, different to anything else weve ever done but deffo one of the best things weve both done! :) Now back in Mikindani.
