Well after a long journey we arrived into Arequipa at 07.45. There seemed to be a water leek along the road somewhere, however the bus driver went straight through the large pool of water and mud and we ended up getting stuck for two hours on a hot bus with little ventilation. At first noone came to our rescue and when they finally did it seemed they were having trouble coming up with a solution to get us out. A digger came, people even used spades. The funny thing was that a couple of local stations were filming the whole thing and interviewing people! In the end we managed to get off the bus via a plank of wood. They transfered us by bus to the station and from there we had to wait until our baggage arrived........So anyway in the end we arrived at the apartment of our host family. We got settled in, ate one of the best meals ive had since i started travelling, soup, rice, fish, lots of veg and a typical peruvian drink know as Chi Cha (made with red corn, pineapple, small apples, cinammon and cloves) this is then boiled and cinammon and sugar is then added. This is a traditional peruvian drink which is drank with main meals. Throughout the day we conversed alot with the family and the other volunteer ( a guy who is 20 years old from Sweden). They are really friendly, open and it seems like we will fit in just nicely.
