day 3 .Today we headed out of the busy Mandalay City to Mingun village. We headed to the busy Mandalay city lively waterfront. We took a riverboat trip up river to Mingun village. We visited the site of the world's largest pagoda (albeit unfinished due to 1975 earthquake), the largest unbroken bell, and temples dating back hundreds, if not thousands of years.
Travelling by riverboat was a good change from comfortable buses. For many westerners not used to Asia you would find it intriguing. The river is effectively a major trading, communication and commuting highway, and a wide range of boats, barges and steamers can be viewed along the way.
I found the village of Mingun very fascinating not only geologically and the impact of 1975 earthquake but also Mingun village itself. It was our first exposure to Myanmar culture outside of Yangoon a city culture and a welcome respite from Mandalau City itself. The ancient pagodas were fascinating. Heaps of markets and people wanting to sell you their wares. Our guide Ko Ko Aye local peregrine guide was very good at advising our group at what to look for in Mingun village. Time to go back to Mandalau City , return was by private boat to continue on the next leg of our day trip
