Day 9 17 day peregrine tour Burma with local guide Ko Ko Aye. Another beautiful day at Inle Lake,Taunggyi. Today is going to be a fun day. We head up Inle Lake by boat to visit a number of locations around Inle Lake. It's a full day
Peregrine policy is for all members of the group to wear life jackets while in our boats travelling on Inle Lake. First stop is the moving market . We were very fortunate our visit coincided with a local market day.
We explored the floating gardens and catches a glimpse of the local intha fishermen who are famous for their unique leg - throwing technique. These people are from the Shans; they originate from the south of the country.
Inle Lake is also home to a wide array of bird- life including egrets, cranes, ducks , storks and birds of prey. We have been surprised by the lack of bird life so far so this was a nice surprise.
Our day on Inle Lake also included visits to. Inle Lake cottage industry such as blacksmiths, silversmith, and weaving factory showing us how silk is made. We quickly learned in the markets where there was a lot of silver or silk it was usually fake or mass produced and brought over from China.
There were some bargains to be had in the markets if you knew what to look for and how to bargain.
We were also treated to local cuisine at an Inle Lake Restaurant selected by our local guide. Afterwards we visited a prominent Inle Lake pagoda which olds an annual festival with the 5 Buddhas. We were surprised to learn women are not allowed up close to view the 5 Buddha. Our local guide Ko Ko Aye took photos on behalf of us.
Such an enjoyable day on Inle Lake stopping every now and then at various locations on Inle Lake. The process of hopping in and out of the boats was very organised. There was no chaos with every boat wanting to stop at the same place. Silent communication and great teamwork occurred each time. A great day by all
