Hey everyone!!!
So I know i have been majorly slacking in my updates about my travels but it gets kind of hard to keep up with. no excuses. i know!!
but since i am updating you now... let me tell you a little bit about my trip to PARIS!!!! the city of love!! haha.
well like all of my trips i must first say that paris was gorgeous! it seemed like everywhere you turned there was some new attraction to be seen that was just as amazing as the first!
this trip was an excursion through my school so everyone got to go. we drove on a big charter bus from Bonn on Wednesday which took about 5 or 6 hours. it wasn't that bad of drive though because we had a few stops on the way. when we arrived in paris we checked in at our hotel which was in the Spanish Quarter of Paris - pretty centrally located. then we jumped on the metro and headed over to the bike shop to begin our bike tour through Paris. As crazy as it sounds the bike tour was the best tour i have been on! 20-something of us all riding bikes through paris, stopping by the eiffel tower and the louvre and parks and castles and museums it was so much fun! not to mention we had a great tour guide who was with us for the entire four and a half days that we stayed in Paris. he was really cool and told us so much about French history and kept us all captivated. the fact that he was pretty good looking had nothing to do with it of course. haha. after riding around paris for a few hours we returned the bikes and walked to a crepe place that wasn't that far away to enjoy our first real French crepes. Mmmm MMmmmm they were good. we each got one salted crepe and one sweet crepe and they were soo delicious. my first one had eggs and tomatoes and my sweet one had ice cream and chocolate and bananas. yum yum.
after that we walked around a little bit more and then we headed back to the hotel to rest up for the next day. Thursday we got to go to the Louvre and see all kinds of works of art and masterpieces first hand. there was so much to see that we weren't able to see the entire museum in the time we had. from there we went walking through town and stopped at a bunch of historical places. we also visited a wine museum and had our first glass of french wine. it was good. sehr gut. Friday and Saturday we visited more museums including the Musee de Orsay with all the impressionist art. it was beautiful. i would say that my new favorite artist right next to Caravaggio is Renoir. i fell in love with just about all of his works. the Monets and Van Gogh's were awesome too.
We had a delicious dinner on Saturday night with Es Cargo and duck and Quiesh and some beef dish and cheese of course and plenty of wine. delicious. i actually tried the es cargo and its surprisingly really good - as long as you aren't thinking about what you are eating! oh yah and who could forget the pastries and baguettes that we enjoyed for our lunches on our own. the best sandwiches i have ever had in my entire life for sure!
on saturday we had a little free time so i went to the top of the eiffel tower on my own. it was amazing. it was pretty cold the day i went and it was raining while i stood in line but it was soo worth it. the view was amazing and even though it took a total of 3 hours i wouldn't have wanted to spend that time any other way. it was great.
we left Paris on Sunday morning and drove an hour to Versailles where we got to take a tour of the castle where Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette and Napoleon all lived at one time. it was really cool. then we had a french picnic in the beautiful gardens there. after our picnic we said goodbye to Julian our French tour guide and left Paris to Belgium. but thats another blog waiting to happen.
as for now i have to head to class. talk to you later and hope you all enjoyed this one!!
love you and miss you!!!
