I think I have to take back what I originally said about Pai. Four days here and I very much love the place. The town itself is ok but the surrounding country is just amazing. The best thing we ever did was rent a scooter. The town of Pai is very much in a valley, surrounded by layer after layer of beautiful mountains which really makes exploration by bicycle a difficult if not impossible task. Today myself and Lisbet went on a waterfall tour. In the morning I had an accident with the scooter. Luckily Lisbet wasn't on the scooter with me so the only person I hurt was myself. I was left with a bruised butt and an even more bruised ego! After that fall I decided to leave the driving to Lisbet and I would take the back seat and just relax and watch the country pass by. During breakfast we were approached by a guy that we had previously met in Ayuthaya and the girls met him in Chaing Mai. Every encounter with him was unplanned but that seems to happen often during our travels. The guys name is Antoine and he is French Canadian. We invited him to join our waterfall trip and he accepted although bravely opted to do the journey on a bicycle. First stop was Mhor Phaeng Waterfall which is beyond the viewpoint we visited yesterday. We gave Antoine a nice head-start on his bike and were surprised that he was over half way there by the time we passed him. The road to the waterfall was super steep yet still Antoine managed to make it very shortly after we did. The boy is a machine!! The waterfall was spectacular. There were a lot of people there and many were taking a dip in the water. Although it was freezing myself and Lisbet got in and I am glad I did because after the initial shock the water was so refreshing. I have a video of us getting in and another video of crazy people sliding down the waterfall, an activity we chose not to take part in. I think my body has taken enough of a bashing for now. We spent quiet a while by the waterfall enjoying the sun and taking lots of pictures. Eventually we pulled ourself away. Leaving Antoine to look at the view point myself and Lisbet headed off to another part of the valley in search of our second waterfall, Pembok waterfall. Although this waterfall wasn't ideal for swimming in, I found it more beautiful than the first and made sure to get loads more photos. We are home now, just after showering and in a little while we are going to meet Antoine for food and drinks.
