Jimmy and I are now all settled in our new apartment in Tower 14 in Taman Rasuna! It's much nicer than the last one - it has so many couches :) - and a much better location also so we don't have to walk 5km just to see everyone else! (Probably wasn't 5km but it was 4 lifts sometimes) Still waiting to organise our house warming as there is way too much happening on the weekends at the moment. We have another long weekend coming up to celebrate Indonesian independence and I'm hoping to get out of Jakarta and see somewhere new but no fixed plans yet.
We also moved into our new offices last week which was exciting because I was actually getting a bit tired of working at home, believe it or not! The new place is a bit further from home (the old office was in the street that Taman Rasuna is in) but a much better set up. We actually have enough desks for everyone and as we are on the 11th floor we have a reasonable view as well. Will try and get some photos of it soon. There is also a great little food court underneath the building at the back which is made up of heaps of warungs serving up delicious food. And for $1.50 a meal it is hard to go past. Have also (unfortunately) discovered the donut store underneath our building which sells 12 donuts for about $5...very very dangerous and so far have shown a lot of self restraint not to try them all yet. They have an amazing array of different flavours so will slowly work my way through them.
Had a very large weekend this weekend just gone. What started as a relatively quiet night at Al and Daph's place suddenly turned into us getting home at about 4.30, ordering McDonald's delivery and going for a 5am swim! We had started at their place but didn't get out until about 1am when we headed to Melly's, the closest thing to a beer garden I have seen here yet. Lovely open air place serving very cheap cocktails and an interesting mix of music. From there is was onto XLounge where Al and I quickly cleared the dance floor with our incredible moves, I suspect we got some very strange looks from the guys dancing next to us who could actually dance! XLounge decided to close before we ready to finish up so went home, ordered McDonalds (Australia is sorely missing out by not having 24 hour McDonalds delivery) and went at by the pool before jumping in. And without any sun or any other source of warmth it was freezing! Was worth it though because it did keep us awake long enough to see the sun rise and the pollution in Jakarta really does make the sunrises and sunsets worth seeing! Then it was off to bed.
Saturday was spent recovering and then watching AFL out at Cibubur. There was a game between the Bintangs (the main team here in Jakarta) which was divided into Australian embassy vs Rest of the world. Was a very nice way to spend an afternoon, did a lot of eating and chatting and not a lot of footy watching!
From there it was back to Rasuna for a birthday party and some very vicious drinking games before heading out again. Went to a small cafe in Pacific Place to see Vincent from Midnight Juggernauts doing a DJ set, can't really remember what his set was like but had a good night. Spent all of Sunday in bed and then it's just been back to work this week.
Last night we headed out to Jalan Jaksa, which is the main backpackers area just north of where we live. Didn't get much of a chance to look around but from what I saw it is a lot of places to eat and drink very cheaply and was absolutely bustling! Ate in a nice little Lebanese restaurant but am looking forward to going back and trying the local food there!
This weekend Cut Copy is in town to do a gig so that should be good fun and then might try to have a quiet one for the rest of it...wish me luck!
