I'm having trouble sending emails at the mo so that's why i haven't been in touch with anyone, but i'm also just taking in my surroundings.
ok so my first flight out of newcastle was delayed two and half hours which meant i literally had to sprint through heathrow with five min to spare for my next flight. Huge relief when i made it, only to find that when i landed in bangkok eleven hours later, my luggage was nowhere to be seen and i'm still waiting for it to turn up two days later.
So at the moment i'm melting in my jeans in the intense heat. However it is the old thai new year at the mo ( Songkran festival) and they celebrate by chucking buckets of water or spraying you with water guns as you walk by or even if you're sat having a drink, as i found, which kind of cools you down a bit. There's absolutley no escape from them. Saw a guy riding an elephant down the main road today whilst i was sat outside a pub and it stopped at a paddling pool full of kids and grown ups to have a drink while they splashed it with water. I was gutted i didn't have my camera with me to capture the moment, but i was scared to take it out with me today in case it got wet.
I've got another day to look forward to being soaked and then hopefully they will give it up. They just don't seem to lose their enthusiam for drenching you.
I'm quite far out of the centre of Bangkok so i'm going to look at moving hostels tomorrow in the Khao San road area. Also my hostel is a bit suspect. I wasn't expecting five star by any means but this place is interesting if you see what i mean. I have seen a few cockroaches, but as yet not actually inside the building. I've got a few bites but i'm telling myself it's from midges and nothing more disgusting. Unfortunatly the hostel is quite quiet, but have had a few drinks with a couple of people. However, being quiet does mean that i have the luxury of a four bed dorm room to myself.
The area is quite local, so i stand out quite a bit, but i'm taller so if anybody gives me any hassle i can just take em down i reckon. The thais are really friendly and you don't even have to move to get up to the bar.
They do make and sell some disgusting looking food that is supposed to be edible though and you know i like my food, but seriously what are they thinking. It's sold in all manners on the side of the road, which makes it all the more yummy and appetizing. It's far too hot to eat anything anyway. Just keep bringing the beer for me please.
