Hello Lucy! Good to hear from you! Waiting on those prom photos and the cycling ones also. Glad you are enjoying the history - we know you would appreciate it if you were here. We did ask you to come but you turned us down! York is great and you would really enjoy it I'm sure.

Last night we walked around the block and decided on an Italian Restaurant for dinner. The food and wine were lovely and the entertainment was brilliant. Manuel - the Italian waiter was all arms and legs, exuberant in his delivery, rushing here and there, seating guests at first one table then suggesting that this table was a better one. Gratsi and Prego to everyone and loud so the restaurant was buzzing with his voice and the laughter of the customers. Brilliant.
Got up, had another lovely breakfast and we were subject to a bit of cajoling to have a cooked one by Gerry - but no, how's that for being strong. Left Edinburgh on an already hot and cloudless morning. We took the A64 to Jedburgh which is a village on the Scottish/English border, famous for two things. 1 Noreen was born here and 2 Paul had the best Cod and Chips he has ever had here on a previous trip! Now the trouble started with Mary - she wanted to go via the coast - turn left, reconfiguring the route, turn left, reconfiguring etc at every junction, side road, intersection, roundabout that we came to. Boy did she not get it - we wanted to take the A64 but she obviously didn't understand and was probably holding the map up the wrong way. We even threatened her with Stu and it wasn't until we were nearly in Jedburgh that she caught on to what we wanted. I told Jannie the she would throw a hissy fit and eventually get us back. Stopped for lunch at a Costa stop someplace near Newcastle and then on to York. Long day's drive as it took us about 6 hours and we got to the B&B at around 2.00pm. Parked the car with parking coupons in the window and trudged the bags up to our room. Had to get them up this set of stairs that was more like a ladder than stairs - so steep that in fact I had to lift the suitcase up and rest it on the second step up and whilst hanging onto the handrail then climb up the two steps, repeating the exercise all the way to the top with each suitcase. The bags are not getting any lighter Rachael, and it's not due to any bits and pieces that we have bought for ourselves let alone for the grand daughters who seem to be vying for favouritism status.
We decided to go into York old town - about a five minute walk from the B&B either along the canal or through the Museum Park. Mostly foot traffic only in the centre of York. Narrow lanes, shops and cafes both sides of the lanes. The cobbles are hard to walk on in places and it was cold so we had to put on our jackets. Not like the weather we left in Edinburgh.
I forgot to say that as we got to the outskirts of York Mary gave up the ghost and shut down due to her battery dying. I knew she would get us back - B……. However Jannie took over and did very well to get us to the back door of our B&B.
Jannie has booked a lovely looking restaurant for dinner tonight so we are soon to go and eat once again. Jane and Paul are thinking of coming to York for the day tomorrow so we are very excited about seeing them again.
