Hi Everyone,
We did a walking tour of the city yesterday it was great, it lasted about four and a half hours, getting into practice for Peru. The guide was a local chap and very knowledgable about his whole country,he is into nature and indigenous people and has travelled widely he was a pleasure to be with.Maybe that´s because I got fed, you know I´m alright as long as I get fed, we went to the markets,we bought fruits I´d never seen in my life before they were very nice, all was going hunky dorey until we arrived at the fish market it was huge and so were the fish!!! some of them were still alive, all the shell fish were and when he touched them they shut there shells all my fishy brother-in-laws would have enjoyed this tour.We did a lot of climbing up to various monuments and a castle, went through some beautiful parks, had no problem sleeping that night.
Today we went to a WINERY,what a fair braw day my heid wis fair birling.Between my Spanish and Alison´s navigation we travelled an hour and a half south of Santiago, partly by foot, some way on the Metro, you´ve never seen a Metro like this you could eat your dinner of the marble floors, the carriages are large all the way through and air conditioned not a piece of litter in sight, all the people who work there are as smart as new pins.
When we arrived at the village we got a taxi to the wine yard,as far as I know we came back the same way anyway we are here!!!The journey was fascinating a couple of people asked me things after a minute or two it sank in what they were saying so I was able to communicate something back.
The tour round the wine yard was excellent,it was a company who sell in Britain,Conco Y Torro, lovely wine we even got the glass to keep dont know how I´m going to carry that.
We couldn´t get a booking for the Easter Islands under £8oo and that was for four days, flight only so we made a sad decision not to go,we´ll just have to come back, maybe they will do a pensioners cruise some day.
So we are going to slowly make our way north and eventually fly from Arica in nothern Chile to Lima on the 10th October.Firstly we are going to Valparaiso and then on to La Serena,I will let you know where I´m staying as soon as I have it booked.Sorry no more photos, they take forever to upload but I´ll make time to do it soon.
We are four or five hours behind you now,I´m not getting a signal on my phone but there are plenty of internet places to keep in touch with you.J xx
