Prague is the most beautiful city we've seen so far. There ya go. You get into the old town and everywhere you look its just awesome buildings and crazy medieval style streets. Huge statues and the most incredible bridge we've ever seen.
We just spent the whole day today walking around in awe. We only meant to do a quick tour to get to know the place, but we walked for hours. Its got the vibe too. Even walking around near the hostel its great. Very city-like. But we came across heaps of veggie eating places, a shop that sells wool if Katie needs it, and even an airsoft shop. Everything is here. And you have to walk down the high street to get into the Old Town. Heaps of big shops. Got myself a new jumper. Nice light one. Gonna have to figure out a way to send some clothes home I think.
So like I said, you get into the Old Town and it just blows your mind. Then you get to the clock tower with the astronomical clock. Its apparently not the only one in the world, but it was still amazing. Get past that and you got the Charles Bridge. Crikey! Check the pics. Should try and cross a different bridge tomorrow and get a view of the entire Charles Bridge itself.
The castle comes next. It huuuuge! Apparently the biggest in the world. It has cathedrals, palaces and courtyard aplenty. The main cathedral was just stupefying. Its the biggest one we've seen yet. The roof almost disappears in a haze of dusty air. We'll go back tomorrow with our rail tickets for 20% off entry to the attractions.
At around 7 O'clock we went to a blacklight show. Theatre with a difference basically. No speech, just awesome visuals and a bit of dancing. Even some nudity, which was pretty decent (or indecent..?). Was telling the story of Alice in Wonderland as she was growing up. It was odd, but we really enjoyed it.
All set for another day.
A few things -
There's more tourists here than we've seen anywhere else. Possibly just the cramped medieval streets, but the numbers are huge. And they're all in tour groups.
Beer is cheaper than pretty much anything else :p
Hawkers in the street. 'Come buy this!' 'Come do this tour!' Eat in my restaurant!' Come to our Irish Pub, you're from Britain!' We don't want to do Irish pubs.
Beggars. Very odd. There's a good few around on the streets, but not like home. They don't bother people. They bow down on their knees with their heads on the pavement and their hands in front of them and just stay there the whole day. That's the one sobering thing here. The fact that they are willing to supplicate themselves entirely to everybody walking around is a fairly wild thing to see. You can't help but feel pity, and its not entirely pleasant.
Crap to end this one a downer when it has really been an amazing day. Its an inspiring city.
And Kate got some new trousers.
