We touch down at Bangkok International after our long overnight flight where, believe it or not, not a single beer was consumed. First job, get to our hotel and take in the 4star hospitality! Here, we have our first sample of Bangkok taxi driver’s and there insistence on trying to rip off tourists (as we later find out we have paid three times too much for our taxi ride) Fortunately, three times too much is only ten pound each, although that is a lot of beer over here!Settled into luxury its time to sample the Bangkok nightlife. With bellies rumbling we hit a restaurant on Sukhumvit road for some traditional Thai cuisine. Red Thai curry for me while James samples the yellow Thai curry. Beautiful food with an even better price to accompany- 5/6 quid each with a few beers downed to. Bellies full, we’re off to the Nana Plaza; beer, music and ladyboys, lots of ladyboys. Believe me, it is hard to tell the difference though! After the amazement and shock of our first night here we retire back to our palace for some shut eye. Day two and we take a stroll around the city, the humidity and heat is quite astonishing! Time for some air con and a traditional Thai Massage or Thai torture as we later nickname it! Seriously, I’ve never been cracked one way and pulled another for so long before paying for the ‘privilege’ once it’s all done! I think she may have cracked a metatarsal. Limping off back into the city we trek through some markets and shopping centres being pulled one way and another by the street hustlers trying to make you buy from them or take you here and take you there. Quite annoying really! James’ heartburn was at breaking point!Into the tranquillity of a shopping mall, James makes his big purchase of the trip so far- his red ipood t-shirt! I’m sure you have seen the pictures- after all he hasn’t taken it off yet. ‘Soiled’ is one way it can be described! After a few nights of drinking around the tourists areas of Sukhumvit, Silom and Patpong (a few sights were certainly seen by all…) it was time to ‘do some culture’ on our final day!So culture day…we saw palaces, statues and Buddha’s. Can’t remember their names but we have the pictures to prove! After being left mentally drained from all the culture, it was time to leave for Koh Samui. Our 15 hour journey across land and sea awaits us, as does the sunshine, or maybe not…
