THE MOUNTAIN WARRIORS
Hey everyone, sorry its been a while I have been out at sea! After having completed my dive course I am now a certified diver so yeah.. watch out?! Unfortunately Alex had a few problems with the swimming test so he stayed on dry land but I think he is planning to try again in Fiji! The Great Barrier Reef was absolutely amazing, it took a couple of hours by boat to get out there on some very rough seas. Things are still pretty shaken up by the Cyclone and I have heard that another is on its way! So I was diving with a group of 7 other people and 1 instructor off this massive boat that is anchored on the reef. We did 4 dives with the instructor, plus all the training in the pool to get our certification. We dived to around 35 feet and I cant say much but you really just had to be there! Sharks, turtles, crazy bright colours, Huge fish, meter long tenticles and what impressed me most was a giant clam, over 4ft wide and 400 years old right on the sea bed, you could stick your hand in it and it would close up! Fantastic! So we did 2 dives on the first day, partied hard all night on the boat until about 4am and then got back in the water at 6:30am the next morning for the next 2 dives! After that we got our certification and went on a dive without the instructor which was cool. I dont think anyone was awake on the boat back to shore! i bought an underwater camera but unfortunately we couldnt use them on the training dives. i took it on the dive at the end but visibility wasnt great after the cyclone so Im not sure if any of the shots will come out. We did, however have a camera man with us on a couple of the dives and I have a dvd that i will copy and send out when back in the UK for anyone thats interested! We are heading to Fiji on Monday which will be cool, Im hoping to do a bit of sailing and maybe a dive or two so watch this space!
