So you have finally made it to NZ. I am glad to hear that you found it as nice as we do. We were there all Christmas and had a fantastic time, then we came back home to depression, snow, blizzards, more depression, credit crunch, and people feeling generally very miserable. We can't wait to get back out there. Trying to buy a house at the moment.
Sorry we won't be able to meet up whilst you are there, but have a great time won't you. When you get to Christchurch go up to Cashmere Hills and Major Aitken Drive and take a look at the view - that's where we decided to buy. Oh and there's a Belgian Beer bar near Victoria Sqaure. Lovely old place right by the river. And if you are there on a Friday night the comedy club is really good, and .., and .. Oh too much to write about.

Ta for the postcard! Have been keeping up with your travels especially on the freezing cold days. Glad to read that you are both working on maintaining the alcohol tolerance levels, probably best to only take photos of Jodie on those days though!!!!

Isn't San Pedro incredible, miles away from anywhere, a bank you can only deposit money in and one petrol station that is private. We turned up there in a hire car that was almost out of fuel and very little money - it was an interesting few days. If I remember well - the power goes off at about 10pm and doesn't come back on until 6am so getting ready for an early morning trip to the geysers is interesting - it gets dark in the country!
The night sky is amazing and its as cold as hell before the sun comes up.
Hope you guys have a great time.

James, you are still having too much fun!! It must be said that Jodie looked the better after the night sleeping out.....you really must work on your look before returning to the ever depressing UK. Keep having fun and stay safe.

I am soooooo unbelievably jealous of you two - you're in the one part of the world I haven't been and it looks fantastic. I will expect copious notes and recommendations on your return !

You should write- there's no argument at all about it ... the blog is exceellent, James will clearly never be able to wear loing trousers again, cut his hair etc, let alone fit into some dull, conventional 9-5 existance. Jodie is probably more adaptable ... but any-way, really enjoying the blog, missing you hugely and hoping to seee you in Aus in a few months ....

Hi - as promised, some recommendations for Chile, which I think you must be going to fairly soon:
Santiago: I'm sure you'll stop here. I loved this city and spent a fair bit of time in the place.
Isla Negra: the home of Pablo Neruda. I stayed at a small place called Casa d'Azur which was very nice 10 years ago :)
San Pedro de Atacama: you're probably not going through here now I'm guessing, but if you do then definitely go to the Valle de la Luna. I also ate great empanadas from a place calledTierra Todo Natural (if it's still there).
San Javier: just south of Talca. I spent Christmas here in 1999. Go to Radal Siete Tazas - a beautiful waterfall.
Malalcahuello: kind of in the Lake District. I did a great horse ride in the Sierra Nevada from here. Just beautiful.
Pucon: I'm sure this place has been even more developed since I was there, but it's a great setting and again, did some great horse riding in the area. Also, this is a good base for climbing Villarrica - providing it's not erupting of course.
Puerto Octay: lovely location to stay if you have the time - great views of the volcano Osorno.
Puerto Varas: I think I stayed here just before I did the bog lake trip that you can do to get to Argentina.
Puerto Montt: I flew from here to Punta Arenas.
Chiloe: I nice little side trip if you have the time.
The Camino Austral: I didn't do this, but if I ever went back I would. I think you need your own transport.
Punta Arenas: I went from here to Ushuaia in Argentina, which boasts to be the southernmost town/city in South America and definitely worth a visit.
Puerto Natales: base for Torres del Paine - which I would highly recommend for some great hiking.
That's about it really - can't believe it's nearly 10 years ago since I was there!

Hi James and Jodie,
We thought we should tell you that we are now the proud owners of a penguino! We will have it ready when you visit us in OZ, so James should be ready with his sound effects. We are not sure we want to repeat our night in BA though... the only thing worse than waiting hungover and nauseous for a delayed plane was having to hand to the air hostess the airsick bag that Jon filled before the plane even left the stand!! Jodie had the right idea staying in bed.
See you in OZ,
Jen, Jon & the Bad Idea Bears

Belated Christmas greetings and all the best for New Year - sounds (and looks) like you are having a pretty good time. Let me know if your plans change and you fancy a few nights in Arabia. Ketty and the girls.

Hi Jodie and James
Happy belated birthday to you Jodie - sorry the message is late. Hope you had a good one. Sounds like you ae both having a wonderful trip - your Christmas retreat looks lovely. James and I got engaged a couple of weeks ago - so very exciting! Christmas was good up at James' parent's beach house in Woolgoolga. Will dig out some places for you to visit in Chile - if you can, you should do a trip to Easter Island - you will not regret it.
