James and Ellie Discover life outside Suffolk
so I (Ellie) have been keeping a diary so we can write it up wen we find an internet connection (though we are writing it up in an abrieviated form).
19-07-06 Ipswich-Paris
Had to get up really early (3.45am) to get the train from Ipswich to london, and on to the eurostar. On the way to Paris i slept while James did wordsearches. Once we arrived we left our bags at the station and found a place to stay. Then we retrieved our bags and returned for a nap before we went out for a dinner of pasta. Tis very hot and muggy but we have a nice room with en-suite. We are both missing friends and family - almost enough to come home!
20-07-06 (my 18th!) Paris-Irun
Lazy start. Braved to metro to the station to drop off are bags, followed by the metro again to the Eiffel Tower. Went all the way to the top - the view carried for miles including all the big sites and outside the city. That has to make my birthday better than I could have imagined! Then we returned to the station for our bags and lunch and then left for Irun (on the Spanish border).
21-07-06 Irun-Bilbao
Place we stayed at last nite was a dump - no window or working cold tap. After we picked up lunch we wandered around until our bus (no train). Fist impressions of Bilbao are great - nice metro and a clean city. Found a place to stay really easily and cheaply (the place is even in the guide book) but its still hot (34deg). We are finding it hard to find a route through spain but never mind.
22-07-06 Bilbao
Today is cooler after a thunderstorm last nite (only 24deg). We had a late start and then headed for the Guggenheim art gallery (fantastic!) after picking up our tickets to Madrid for tomorrow (i am getting to be fluent in spanish...almost). Wandered around bilbao this afternoon and then came here to give you all an update. Bilbao is really nice - clean and relaxed and it feels really safe. Speak to you soon xxx
ps we are looving the messages on the message board - keep posting and postcards are on the way.
