Day 12 Valencia - Barcelona
We were up and at the station by 11am this morning. It was stifling in our room + the woman a few rooms down has a serious coughing problem. We went to the market to pick up fruit but it was closed (we forgot its sunday). We boarded the train at 12, headed for Barcelona (a 4 hr trip). As an aside we have seen so many random films on trains, Miss Congeniality 2, Brothers Grimm, After The Sunset, Fun With d*** And Jane and today we added House Of Flying Daggers to the collection. Anyway when we got to Barcelona, we went to book tickets but its free to get to France plus you have to be in France to book one from there. The metro was a mission, one randomly stopped and went in the wrong direction but we got to the Ramblas eventually. As we came out of the station I saw a hostal above a shop which turns out to be excellent and we even managed to haggle down the price. This evening we wandered down the Rambla with ice cream which was great. Off again tomorrow though.

Day 13 Barcelona - (Cebere) - (Avignon) - Marseille
What a mission of a day. We left the hostal (cant believe it was ON the Rambla) at 7am to pick up fruit and head for the station for 8.30. Our first train took us to the Spain-France border, taking 2hrs 40mins. Not an eventful trip - but the train was a UK style 1; minimalist but not in a chic way. Then we waited for an hour for our connection to Avignon. The train was hot and we were in compartments of 8. J had a minor shower gel eruption incident, but it was ok. Then we got our final train (after 4 hrs from Cebere) from Avignon. No seats avaliable on that 1 so we had to stand for an hr in the boiling heat. I guess we should expect it, 300 miles (approx.) for free. When we got to Marseille we got the metro to the tourist office and they found us accomodation. A proper hotel; air con! and a fridge/freezer! So we are living it up for the first 3 nights back in france. Cant quite believe we had to come so far - 9 hours was a beast but that must be the worst over.
Will update again from Nice. love to all xxx
