James and Ellie in Europe
Day 17:
The first thing we had to do this morning was to deal with more financial problems unfortunately. James' mum had been good enough to send out an emergency 100 pound wire so we could carry on travelling as the money transfer still hadn't come thru. We picked this up no problem (thanks mums - again!!!!!) and then got on the train to country number 7. We got to the station in plenty of time which was a rarity for us; and we managed to sound out some very cheap local beer and vodka to help us thru the train journey ahead. Needless to say the journey flew by and we arrived in Budapest a lot quicker than we imagined :o)
Ths hostel itself ws a bit out of the ordinary but was much better for it. The walls were covered in graffitti from past guests, ranging from quotes from the great poets to lyrics from 80s metal bands; but all good as far as we were concerned.
We wanted to go to the zoo and weren't disappointed by the wide range of animals they had. The zoo was huge and we got lost several times but what we saw was amazing. There was an area put aside for nocturnal animals and we saw the rare Javanese ferret-badger alongside several hundred egyptian fruit bats - scared the hell out of us but exhilirating at the same time.
We then found a restaurant recommended by our hosts and enjoyed cold strawberry soup amongst other delicacies!!
We got back to the hostel pretty late but due to the free internet and late bar we managed to update a few days on the journal; and let people know we were still alive and well generally!!!
There was so much more to see in Budapest that we never got to see but I'm sure we'll go back and see the rest of it soon!!!
