3rd-4th
We wanted to catch the tram ride that did a short city tour, on the sheet it had clear times of when it was running. However, we are in Peru and Peruvians run on a different time schedule! After waiting around for ½ hour and asking the useless tourist information we decided to try again in the afternoon. It was on time after a two hour lunch break and it was the sort of tour I like. We only had a few stops and it was sight after sight. Unfortunately we couldn't hear much of the information, even though the lady explained in English we could only hear which direction to look. It was a good tour and took us to the outskirts of the city where we saw a mini Christ the Redeemer and the outside of Sacsaywaman.
The following day we got together a small picnic (from Delimonasterio) and got a taxi back to Sacsaywaman where we planned to wander around the ruins and enjoy lunch with a view over the city. To our disappointment and shock the price to get into the ruins were ridiculous. You had to buy a Boleto Turistico that allowed you into a few different sites around the area. We tried to argue that we only wanted to see one, she wasn't having any of it and even stopped us from walking along the side of the road where we could see the site from the outside! Instead we had a pleasant walk down the other way back to the city and still got some great views. My legs needed to be waxed so when one of the many massage ladies offered us waxing and a massage we decided to take her up on the offer. James, M&D had a full body massage and I got my legs waxed. The massages finished before I was finished and to my embarrassment all the women came and helped! You know you are hairy when there are four people waxing you at one time! James, M&D loved their massages and I think I may have to have one after Machu Picchu. The picnic food didn't go to waste, we ate it in the sunshine in the Plaza cursing the price of the ruins.
We were all a little concerned that 5 days would be too long in one place. It isn't if you are in Cusco. M&D would love to come back and so would James and I, somewhere to bring the grand kids ! A great 5 days we will be sad to say goodbye.
