Yassou from Mykonos!!
It's 10am on our second day in Mykonos. Have been having a blast so far.
After no sleep on either flights we finally arrived into Athens at 3pm on the 16th. We caught the hour long metro train to Montrasiki square. From here it was a long hall up the stairs with my luggage up to the street as most of the trainload is underground. From the square it was a short walk to Athenstyle, our first two nights of accommodation. The lift to get up to the fourth floor would only fit one person at a time with luggage, wouldn't want to be claustrophobic! Our balcony had a clear view of the Acropolis and the Parthenon! Gorgeous! Went for a quick walk around the surrounding streets, so many people trying to drag you into their restaurants, all of which smelled so good from the street! We headed back to the hostel and continued up to the 6th floor which is the rooftop bar. This also has an amazing view of the acropolis and lights up at night. Met up with an English chap James and went out for some dinner.
The next day we decided to try and find our way up to the acropolis. All though this looked far it actually only took us about 20 mins to get there and then another to climb to the top. So many people up there all ready and the sun had quite a bite. The site is amazing and they are doing quite a few restorations at the moment. One other bonus is the Olympic flame had been lit there just the day before so was great to see it up there.
Later that evening we met the busabout guides and group on the rooftop bar. Such a great group. But our 6 weeks seems measly in comparison to some of the time these guys are doing. Some are doing between 4-6 months! So jealous!
Went out that night round the corner for some amazing Gyros (pronounced Yeeros) which has pork, lettuce, red onion, tzatiki and chips wrapped in pita. Think I found my new favourite food at a cost of €1.90! Yummo!!!
The next morning we were down at reception by 530 for our transfer to Port Piraeus where we would be boarding the ferry to Mykonos. We had our first casualty to sleep in... Guides had to get the key to his room to wake him up.
The ferry to Mykonos took 5 hours and had 2 stops before ours. The first had some amazing buildings where I wasted a lot of my camera card.
The transfer to Mykonos was interesting, the roads are so narrow and nameless to apparently confuse the pirates. We arrived at Paradise Beach Club, our accommodation for the next 2 nights. The rooms are basic but ok, as you would expect but at first no sign of the beach. Then you walk through some wooden doors which opens out to bars, restaurants and the beach! It is brilliant and has a view of Delhos across the ocean. So beautiful!! By this time it is about 330 and we are having some drinks with the busabout crew before we head out tonight. The drinks here are free poured so my jacks has been rather strong ;)
Headed out to the town about 6pm. Walking through winding streets to get to the restaurant Oasis for dinner. You don't want to lose your guide out here as it is a maze of streets with buildings very close together. We had kalamari and tzatiki dip for dinner before we headed off to the first bar for the evening. We visited rhapsody, Down Under and along to the last bar as we came across a 'gay' pelican walking the streets. Apparently he has a girlfriend but they have never mated therefore the locals think he is gay :)
Ok so how many of you out there have danced on a bar in Mykonos and have lived to tell the tale?? I have ;) there were so many group drinks and shots going around and so much dancing. Also games involving people having to complete push ups right there in the bar. Definitely a great first night and hopefully a good look of what's to come over the next 8 days. And our guide Hannah has asked us to write an apology to our livers.
The guides we have are absolutely amazing!! Such great knowledge and know how to party with the rest of us.
So glad we chose to go with busabout for our trip!!
Anyway it's 1045 on our second day in Mykonos and we are hoping to head back into town with the camera to get some amazing shots of some of the areas we visited last night, including little Venice.
Ok am gonna finish up now and we'll write something again soon.
Oh and Jason wants to add that he wants to quit his job, sell the house and get Ebony shipped over here... He's loving it ;)
