Good Morning all - Happy April Fools or as i like to say...Happy Birthday to me :)
We reached Byron Bay at 6pm on Friday and drove into the carpark of the Arts Factory and who was in the vehicle driving towards us, my cousin Cal and his friend John. We both sat in our campervans and just screamed at each other, no words were suffice to express the happiness. We immediatly got parked up and checked in.
The Arts Factory is a fascinating place, it has that cool hippy, peace not war vibe. Its very enviromentally friendly and offers so many classes from meditation, to boxing, to pottery etc. People sit around having smoothies, reading their books, planning their next activity and playing on their guitars. The first night we had a great catchup and exchanged travelling stories over one or 25 beers!! Chris and I fell asleep whereas the others went to a rave which continued in the carpark which had a man swinging fire around!
Next morning i woke up refreshed whereas the boys a little worse for wear but after a smoothie (remedy for everything) we went to Byron Bay and went surfing!! It was only 40 dollars to hire 3 boards as John and Cal already had some. Wow what a rush. I immediatly had to get over my fear of deep water and dived right in with the boys, we swam out as far as we could but the current was so strong we kept being pushed down to another beach! we all surfed several waves, none of us stood up mind, but i knelt which is basically the same :) There were kids surfing with ease which made us feel a little silly, espcially when one sails straight past me and im coughing up sea water from falling off my board haha
We went to Byron Bay lighthouse which is the most easterly point of Australia. Incredible views in every direction. We went down a path which led to a secluded beach and sat on the rocks looking at the dolphins. We all collected a few shells and made our way to another beach to do some more surfing. Cal said the waves at the next beach were alot more intense but as we walked out onto the beach i thought it looked fairly calm, looks can be deceiving. We all ran in except for John who played guitar on the beach, and BAM POW WALLOP SQUISH SMACK. I tried to surf and the wave swallowed me whole, as i stood up to breath another wave hit me. To the boys amusement im standing there with hair all over my face, can hardly breath and desperately trying to check that im not exposing myself. To conclude surfing was awesome! we surfed for hours and many times we would catch a wave and it would carry you all the way to the shore. We then left the boards and just went in for a swim which felt so liberating.
We went back to the Arts Factory after stocking up on more beer and bacon, and celebrated Earth Hour. We took a beer and listened to a guy play acoustic. It was great to see so many people, all of us sitting by candle light singing :) We then went to the on site bar and danced to a reggae band - very surreal. The boys then had a surprise for me - as it turned midnight they gave me a cupcake with a candle in it and a sparkler! the party continued for a little longer then we crashed.
Its now 9.30am and im having a smoothie hmmmm. Were all going to cook a huge fry up, laugh at last nights photos then head out into Byron to buy my birthday outfit for tonight!
Thankyou for all your birthday messages.
Love to all, Love Jess, Chris and Josh
P.S. Happy Birthday Mum, Love you dearly xxxx
