Hello everyone,
I'm currently sitting in the beautiful foyer of Yoshs lovely home. Everyone has just gone for an midday stroll around Udaipur except for me and poor Joe as we're both feeling rotten. Delhi belly is here to stay for a while I think, neither of us have eaten much within the past 48 hours and so thought a nap before we head out on a river boat ride around the lakes of Udaipur would be a good idea. Don't worry mums I'm keeping my fluids up and resting and Chris is being supportive :)
So since our last blog we were having a relaxing day in Jaipur which Chris was only awake for 4 hours of that day and the rest of us sat on the roof terrace admiring the crazy world around us. The next day we were happy to be moving on with our journey and travelling to Yoshs house. Thank goodness Yosh was there because the train station was a mystery to all of us! We were travelling in 2nd class which meant we could stay in the second class waiting room. Yosh said the train is supposed to arrive at 2pm which he said actually meant 2:30 and he was right, so we all went to the waiting room which is supposed to be better than third class as it has chairs, yet non were available when we arrived - this was the beginning.
We got on the train and weren't too disappointed, the air was thick with the smell of oil but we quickly adjusted. The seats were fairly comfortable except for the cast iron divider between the seats which had a slither of cushion - lovely. The journey was expected to take 8 hours but took 9, but Chris and I watched The Kings Speech and Inception on the way it was so nice to have a little home comfort on the train. Chris and I kept dosing in and out of sleep until we were awoken by this family who insisted our seats were there's, the irony was that every other seat on this carriage approx 30 were available. Another perfect element to this scenario was that Yosh had DISAPPEARED! So we're trying to explain that Yosh has our tickets, eventually he comes back and says 'oh yeh we all need to move seats'. We moved 2 rows in front ha ha ha we had to laugh.
I plucked up the courage three times to go to the toilet on the train but was sadly unsuccessful, it was an Indian toilet which had dirt where you can't imagine dirt can go so I went into a western toilet in the carriage in front but unfortunately I just squeeled and ran out. Despite all of this, and I can tell the mums now that we have done it and survived, that you can open the door of the carriage and hang your legs out of the train as you go along. The sights were amazing, sun setting, warm breeze and a sense of great freedom which you can't quite get on a train in England. I know it's naughty but Yosh did it first haha.
So we finally arrived at Udaipur, a little worse for wear but a 10 minute ride on a tuktuk to Yoshs house was fun. Although at one moment we had realised we had lost all the others and came to conclusion Chris, John and myself were about to be sold into white slavery. A little extreme but the mind wonders when your that tired, but oh how we laughed when we got to Yoshs.
It was an exhausting day but it was all worth it when Yosh took us up onto the roof terrace of his house. Spectacular. None of us spoke and it brought a tear to my eye, we all had a great sense of relief and happiness that we were now away from all the craziness. Yosh then asks if we all wanted a beer....what was funny about this was that we had only travelled nine hours on a train and were shattered but Yosh within the past 24 hours had been travelling for 21 of those hours but yet he was ready to party. We all had a beer, and Chris and i had macaroni cheese and off to bed we went. Yosh also has a sausage dog, precious little thing which looks funny walking down stairs like a little carpet.
Apologies for this blog being so long but in India a million things happen within the space of a day. Miss you all.
Love to all, Jess and Chris xxx
