Today I had to figure out how I was going to get to Puerto Montt to catch my flight on Saturday to Balmeceda, which is where I will take a short bus to get to Coyhaique. We weren't sure if I would have to leave today or tomorrow so we packed up and checked out of the cabana and drove over to the bus station to get my ticket. Turns out they had a early bus to Puerto Montt the next day so we could stay another night in Pucon. Yay! I like this city and the company is great, so I was happy to stay for one more night. We ended up back at the same cabana after not finding any better options for accommodation. Besides, today was going to be another amazing day... One of Felipe's close friends from high school was a pilot and he was also a trainer of other pilots. He arranged to fly out with a student to Pucon from Temuco to give us a private flight around the city and the huge live volcano that is next to the town. His student has to log so many hours before he can fly solo, so all we had to pay for was gas to make this happen -- and that was only $80! Sooooooo worth it, as during the tourist summer season people would normally pay upwards of $150-$200 for this same experience and I don't think they would have gotten as close to the volcano as we had. We literally could see the smoke pouring out of the top of it! The flight was over an hour long and the views were truly spectacular. A great use of my GoPro camera provided awesome footage which I later compiled into a YouTube video which I uploaded to Facebook. I couldn't have asked for a more awesome day! This last week has been truly amazing and such a great start to my trip.
