Hello again, this time im writting from Perth and we are getting very close to the end of our trip only 4 and a half weeks left, the tiem has gone so quickly and i dont think im ready to come home yet! Our second to last week in St Kilda was spent mostly working to pay for our trips and watching tennis and cricket with the occasional bit of sunbaking when the weather was nice. Our last week was spent on the road trip with Sarah and Liv driving the Great Ocean Road and exploring Phillip Island. We left on tuesday but not before it took me and Liv nearly 4 hours to find our way across the city to pick the camper up and drive back to the flat to load up our stuff. We finally got on the road and set off towards our first stop which was Torquay the start of the Great Ocean Road, and visited Bells Beach which is known all over the world for its famous surf. Our next stop was Anglesea and then straight on to Split Point where we visited the lighthouse, famous for being the set of Round the Twist - i was particulary excited about seeing this lol! We than made our way onto Lorne and took a walf upto Erskine Falls before heading further into the Otway National Park to Stevenson Falls where we spent our first night.
The next day we left the campground and continued down the Great Ocean Road towards Apollo Bay where we visited Mariners Falls a lovely waterfall which took us on a walk through the jungle having to cross the river on stepping stone at several points. From here we went to a look out of the coast called Teddy's Point which had amazing views of the road and out to sea. Our next stop was the most famous part of the Great Ocean Road the 12 Apsotles, Loch Ard Gorge and Thunder Cave, it was amazing!!!! That night we stayed at a little place called Princetown just outside Port Campbell, we showered had our dinner then decided that we should have a camp fire as it was getting a little bit chilly. Sarah and Liv went off to find some firewood and to attempt to make a fire in one of the fire pits, they didnt get on too well and another camper, an aussie bloke saw this and kindly made us a fire with the axe (who takes an axe camping?) and then when it wouldnt go well well enough he threw loads of white spirit over it (again who takes that camping with them?) so after a few mugs of goon and a nice chat round the fire we retired for the night.
The third day took us inland making our way back towards Melbourne, we had a long drive and stopped off at Red Rock Lookout which overlooks a vast area which used to be volcanic and the largest inland salt lake. After having some lunch here we carried on the drive towards Colac where we stocked up on supplies and spent nearly 2 hours trying to find a disposable BBQ which in the end ended without one. We then headed to our spot for the night a place called Meredith Park right on the banks of a lake, we ate Kangaroo for the first time (not my fav food) and adopted a dog called Timmy from some old people for the evening.
Our last full day took us on a long drive back through Melbourne out the other side and onwards to Philip Island. We arrived in the afternoon and checked ourselves in at a campsite in Ancorhage and after a spot of sunbaking we headed of to explore the island. Our first stop was to the Nobbie Centre which is a conservation centre and area for seals, where we took a long walk along the boardwalk at the top of the cliffs and had some close encounters with snakes and baby penguins. Our next stop was to treat ourselves with some fish and chips from Cowes which we ate from the paper while we sat by the sea sorrounded by seagulls, what could be more British?!The bets part of Philip Island was still to come and its where we headed off to nect, the little Penguin Parade. You sit on seats right on the beach wait for it to get dark and watch as over 500 little penguins (not more than a foot high and thats fully grown) come in from the sea and wander up the sand dunes to feed their babies. We stayed for as long as we could but the cold got to much and we headed back to the van for some goon and an early night.
The next morning we headed back to Melbourne to srop the van off and end our road trip. Our last day in melbourne was spent sunbaking as it finally hotted up and reached 40 degrees, after we could take no more we treated oursleves to a nice meal as a leaving present. Monday morning we were up early and left the house for the aiport to fly to Perth to stay with Sarah's grabndparents which is where i am writting this from now. We have been here a few days now and the weather is beautiful around 35 degrees every day and not a cloud in the sky. So far we have had a little wander around Perth CBD and visited Kings Park, went to Hilarys where we went to the aquarium and had a look round the shops. WE have a lot more planned so i will keep you updated and write again before we head off to Africa in a weeks time. Love to everyone xxxxx
