New York! Well, we've been here for a couple of days now and it is NOISY! People shout, the music in the department stores blares (less than five minutes in Macys was way more than enough to convince me never to set foot inside again) and the traffic roar and other, unidentifiable, background noise assaults my ears. For anyone reading this who doesnt know me, let me tell you I am a Londoner, so it is not that I'm not used to city traffic. Fortunately, our hostel is very quiet. We're on the corner of East 73rd and York with traffic going past most of the time but we don't hear it. It's very cramped - I feel as though I am sleeping in the wardrobe - but clean and comfy.
On our first night we found a nice little Mexican eatery just around the corner and ate there two nights. On Friday we found the camera shop Rik wanted to visit (B&H) and he ordered the lens he wanted - to be collected from the warehouse on Monday. We walked through Central Park to get there. It was a weird feeling,a ctually being here after all the stress and planning of the past few months.
Walking through New York is like walking through all the films and TV programmes I've ever seen set here.
On Saturday we spent a lot of time at the beautiful Grand Central Station. Photos are on Flickr. On Monday, if it's not raining, we will 'do' Ellis and Liberty Islands and athe Statue of Liberty
